Additional Enchanted Miner Mod Guide: Enchantable Quarries, Pumps & Automated Mining

Additional Enchanted Miner (QuarryPlus) adds a suite of advanced mining machines that can be enchanted with Fortune, Silk Touch, Efficiency, and Unbreaking. From the versatile Quarry Plus to the devastating Chunk Destroyer, these machines automate resource collection on a massive scale while respecting your enchantments.

Overview

Additional Enchanted Miner, also known as QuarryPlus, is an unofficial continuation of the original QuarryPlus mod by yogpstop. It provides a collection of advanced mining machines that go far beyond a simple quarry by supporting Minecraft enchantments. You can apply Fortune to multiply ore drops, Silk Touch to collect blocks whole, Efficiency to reduce energy costs, and Unbreaking to dramatically lower power consumption.

The mod centers around the Quarry Plus, a configurable area miner that digs down to bedrock, but it also includes pumps for fluid removal, a Chunk Destroyer for flattening entire chunks, a Mining Well for vertical shafts, and utility machines like the Enchantment Mover and Spawner Controller. All machines accept Forge Energy (FE/RF), MJ from BuildCraft, and EU from IC2, making them compatible with most tech mod power systems. You can browse all items and recipes the mod adds using the tabs on this page.

Prerequisites

Additional Enchanted Miner requires a power source from another mod to function. The machines accept RF, FE, MJ, and EU, so any tech mod that generates energy will work. Popular options include Thermal Expansion, Mekanism, BuildCraft, and IndustrialCraft 2. If you don't have any energy mods installed, you can set NoEnergy to true in the mod's config file to make all machines operate without power. Additionally, the mod requires Scalable Cat's Force as a library dependency for Minecraft 1.13 and later versions on Forge.

Getting Started

  1. 1

    Craft the Workbench Plus

The Workbench Plus is the crafting station you need to build most machines in this mod. It requires 3 Iron Blocks, 2 Gold Blocks, 1 Diamond Block, and 3 Redstone. This is your gateway to every other machine, so prioritize it early. The Workbench Plus consumes energy (up to 250 MJ/tick by default) to process its recipes.

  2. 2

    Set Up a Power Source

Connect your Workbench Plus and future machines to a power source. Any mod that provides RF, FE, MJ, or EU will work. You'll need significant power output for the larger machines, especially the Quarry Plus which can receive up to 300 MJ/tick and stores 15,000 MJ. Start with whatever generators you have available and scale up as needed.

  3. 3

    Craft Your First Quarry

Use the Workbench Plus to craft a Quarry Plus or start with a Solid Quarry if you prefer solid fuel operation. The Solid Quarry is crafted on a regular Crafting Table using 3 Furnaces, 2 Diamond Pickaxes, 1 Gold Block, and 3 Redstone Torches. Place it in the world where you want to start mining.

  4. 4

Define Your Mining Area with Markers

Place Marker Plus blocks to define the rectangular area your quarry will mine. Position markers at the corners of your desired area, then activate them to form a marker network. The Quarry Plus reads this network to determine its work boundaries. Without markers, the quarry will use a default area around itself.

  5. 5

    Enchant Your Machine

This is what makes the mod special. Enchant a Diamond Pickaxe with Fortune, Silk Touch, Efficiency, or Unbreaking, then use the Enchantment Mover to transfer those enchantments to your quarry. Fortune on a quarry means multiplied ore drops from every block it mines. Silk Touch means collecting whole ore blocks. The enchantments dramatically change how effective and efficient your quarry operates.

Solid Quarry Shortcut

The Solid Quarry is crafted on a regular Crafting Table, not the Workbench Plus. If you're just getting started and don't have a power infrastructure yet, this is the fastest way to begin automated mining.

The Enchantment System

The core innovation of this mod is that all mining machines support Minecraft enchantments. You cannot enchant the machines directly on an Enchanting Table. Instead, you enchant a Diamond Pickaxe with the desired enchantment, then use the Enchantment Mover machine to transfer that enchantment onto your quarry or other machine. You can also use the Book Mover variant to transfer enchantments from Enchanted Books.

Efficiency

Efficiency reduces the energy cost of breaking blocks. The power formula uses a coefficient of 1.3 for quarries and mining wells, meaning each level of Efficiency divides the energy cost by 1.3. At Efficiency V, your quarry uses roughly 3.7 times less energy per block. The Laser uses an even more aggressive coefficient of 2.0, making Efficiency especially impactful on that machine.

Fortune

Fortune works exactly as it does on a pickaxe, multiplying drops from ores and other Fortune-compatible blocks. The energy cost increases with a coefficient of 1.3 per level for quarries, so Fortune III costs about 2.2 times more energy per block, but the extra drops are well worth it. On the Laser, Fortune's coefficient is only 1.05, making it nearly free to use.

Silk Touch

Silk Touch causes the quarry to collect blocks in their original form rather than dropping items. This doubles the energy cost (coefficient of 2.0) for quarries and mining wells, but lets you collect ores as ore blocks, which is ideal if you have a processing setup from another mod that multiplies ore output. On the Laser, the Silk Touch penalty is much lighter at only 1.1x.

Unbreaking

Unbreaking is arguably the most important enchantment for power efficiency. It reduces energy consumption using the formula: cost / (level * coefficient + 1). With Unbreaking III on a quarry (coefficient 1.0), your energy cost is divided by 4. Combined with Efficiency V, you can reduce power consumption to less than a tenth of the base cost. The Laser's Unbreaking coefficient is only 0.1, so it has less impact there.

Mining Machines

Quarry Plus

The flagship machine of the mod. The Quarry Plus mines a rectangular area defined by Marker Plus blocks, digging from the surface all the way down to Y=1. It builds a frame around the mining area, then uses a drill head that moves across the frame to break blocks one layer at a time. The base power cost is 40 MJ per block broken, scaled by the block's hardness. It can receive up to 300 MJ/tick and stores a maximum of 15,000 MJ internally.

When the quarry encounters liquids (Water, Lava), it handles them automatically. Attach a Pump Plus module and the quarry will remove all liquids in its path, solving one of the biggest annoyances with traditional quarries. The Replacer module allows the quarry to fill mined-out areas with a replacement block.

Chunk Destroyer

The Chunk Destroyer is the Quarry Plus taken to the extreme. It can flatten entire chunks (16x16 block areas) in under an hour. Unlike the standard quarry that mines block by block with a visible drill head, the Chunk Destroyer processes entire layers at once. It supports the same enchantments as the Quarry Plus and has the same base power costs, but its ability to operate on a larger scale makes it ideal for massive excavation projects. With the CollectBedrock config option enabled, it can even collect Bedrock as an item.

Mining Well Plus

The Mining Well Plus mines a single column straight down from where it's placed, all the way to bedrock. It uses 40 MJ base power per block with a maximum receive rate of 100 MJ/tick and 1,000 MJ storage. This is a simpler, more targeted alternative to the full quarry when you just need a vertical shaft or want to quickly probe for ores in a specific location. It supports all four enchantments.

Solid Quarry

The Solid Quarry is a special variant that can be crafted on a standard Crafting Table without needing the Workbench Plus. It's crafted from 3 Furnaces, 2 Diamond Pickaxes, 1 Gold Block, and 3 Redstone Torches. This makes it accessible early in your playthrough before you have a full power infrastructure set up.

Head Movement Energy Cost

The quarry head uses 200 MJ base power to move between positions, which is separate from the block-breaking cost. Larger mining areas mean more head movement, which adds up. Enable the FastQuarryHeadMove config option to speed up head traversal if your quarry feels slow on large areas.

Fluid & Pump Machines

Pump Plus

The Pump Plus is an attachment module for the Quarry Plus. When connected, it pumps out all liquid blocks (Water, Lava) encountered during quarry operation. This eliminates the need to deal with flowing liquids filling in your quarry hole. It uses 10 MJ base power per liquid block drained. The Pump Plus can be converted between its block form and a Pump Module item, making it easy to swap on and off machines as needed.

Advanced Pump (Standalone Pump)

The Advanced Pump operates independently from any quarry. Place it above a body of fluid and it will automatically build frames downward and pump out all connected fluid blocks. It supports Efficiency and Unbreaking enchantments to reduce energy costs. The pump features a delete mode that removes fluids without storing them, which is useful for draining the Nether of Lava when you don't need to keep the liquid. The CurseForge description specifically mentions that "you can make the Nether dry" with this machine.

Utility Machines

Enchantment Mover

The Enchantment Mover is one of the most important machines in this mod. It transfers enchantments from a Diamond Pickaxe to any compatible machine. The supported enchantments are Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, and Unbreaking. Place your enchanted pickaxe and the target machine item in the Enchantment Mover's GUI, and it will transfer the enchantments over. This is the only way to enchant your quarries and other mining machines.

Book Mover

The Book Mover works similarly to the Enchantment Mover but accepts Enchanted Books instead of Diamond Pickaxes. This costs 50,000 MJ per transfer. It's convenient when you find enchanted books while mining or trading with Villagers. The Book Mover checks that items implement the IEnchantableItem interface with the isValidInBookMover flag, so it only works with the mod's own machines.

Spawner Controller

The Spawner Controller lets you change what entity a neighboring Mob Spawner produces. Place it next to a Spawner and interact with it to cycle through available entities. There's a configurable blacklist of entities that cannot be set, which by default includes the Ender Dragon, Wither, Area Effect Clouds, Items, and Players. This is useful for creating custom mob farms with specific mob types.

Exp Pump

The Exp Pump is a module that collects experience orbs generated during quarry operation. When the quarry breaks blocks that would normally drop experience (such as ores), the Exp Pump captures that XP. Like the Pump Plus, it can be converted between its block and module forms.

Replacer

The Quarry Replacer fills in the space left behind by the quarry with a configurable block. Instead of leaving a massive empty pit, the quarry replaces mined blocks with your chosen material (commonly Dirt or Cobblestone). Like other modules, it converts between block and Replacer Module form.

Supporting Infrastructure

Workbench Plus

The Workbench Plus is the mod's custom crafting station required for most machine recipes. It has a 27-slot input area and 18-slot output area. Recipes consume energy based on their complexity, and the machine can receive up to 250 MJ/tick by default (configurable via the WorkbenchMaxReceive setting). Place your ingredients in the input slots, supply power, and the Workbench will craft the output. It also supports a work-continue mode that repeats the recipe automatically as long as materials and power are available.

Marker Plus

Markers define the rectangular work area for your quarries. Place them at corner positions to establish the boundaries. The markers form a network that the quarry reads to determine its mining area. Without markers, machines use a default area. Proper marker placement is crucial for controlling exactly where your quarry operates and how large an area it covers.

Frames & Plain Pipes

Quarry Frames are structural blocks that form the boundary of the quarry's work area. The quarry builds these automatically during setup, consuming 25 MJ per frame block built. Frames can be configured to chain-break (removing one removes connected frames) or not via the DisableFrameChainBreak config option. Plain Pipes serve as conduit blocks for routing items and fluids.

Laser Plus & Refinery Plus

The Laser Plus provides directed energy for specific tasks. It has unique enchantment scaling: Efficiency uses a coefficient of 2.0 (very aggressive cost reduction), Fortune at 1.05 (nearly free), Silk Touch at 1.1, and Unbreaking at 0.1 (minimal impact). The Refinery Plus processes fluids with an Efficiency coefficient of 1.2 and supports up to 6 MJ/tick input with 1,000 MJ storage.

JEI Integration

All Workbench Plus recipes, Enchantment Mover combinations, and Book Mover transfers are viewable through JEI (Just Enough Items). If you have JEI installed, you can look up any machine to see its recipe and energy cost directly in-game.

Configuration

Additional Enchanted Miner offers extensive configuration through Forge's config system. Here are the most important settings players should know about.

NoEnergy (default: false) makes all machines work without any energy input. Enable this if you don't have any power-generating mods installed, or if you just want to use the machines without worrying about power logistics.

RemoveBedrock (default: false) allows machines to break through Bedrock. The blocks are simply removed, not collected as items. CollectBedrock (default: false) goes a step further and lets the Chunk Destroyer collect Bedrock as an item drop.

FastQuarryHeadMove (default: false) speeds up the quarry drill head's movement between positions. Enable this if your quarry feels slow, especially on larger mining areas where the head has to travel further between blocks.

RemoveOnlyFluidSource (default: false) restricts the Pump Plus to only remove source fluid blocks, leaving flowing blocks to disappear naturally. Set to false to have the pump actively remove all fluid blocks including flowing ones.

WorkbenchMaxReceive (default: 250, range: 0 to 2,147,483,647) controls the maximum energy input rate for the Workbench Plus in MJ/tick. Increase this if your Workbench recipes are crafting too slowly.

All power values (BasePower, BaseMaxReceive, BaseMaxStored) and enchantment coefficients (EfficiencyCoefficient, FortuneCoefficient, SilktouchCoefficient, UnbreakingCoefficient) can be individually configured per machine category. This lets you fine-tune the balance to your liking.

FAQ

How do I enchant my Quarry Plus?

You cannot enchant machines directly on an Enchanting Table. Instead, enchant a Diamond Pickaxe with the desired enchantment (Fortune, Silk Touch, Efficiency, or Unbreaking), then place both the pickaxe and the machine in the Enchantment Mover. The enchantment will be transferred from the pickaxe to the machine. Alternatively, use the Book Mover with an Enchanted Book.

What energy types does the mod accept?

All machines accept Forge Energy (FE), Redstone Flux (RF), Minecraft Joules (MJ) from BuildCraft, and Energy Units (EU) from IndustrialCraft 2. Any tech mod that generates these energy types will work. If you have no energy mods, set NoEnergy to true in the config to bypass power requirements entirely.

How do I define the quarry's mining area?

Place Marker Plus blocks at the corners of your desired rectangular mining area. Activate the markers to form a network, then place or activate the Quarry Plus adjacent to the marker network. The quarry will read the markers and mine within those boundaries. Without markers, the quarry uses a default area.

Can the quarry handle lava and water underground?

Yes. Attach a Pump Plus module to your quarry to automatically remove all liquid blocks (Water and Lava) encountered during mining. The Pump Plus uses 10 MJ per liquid block drained. You can also use the standalone Advanced Pump separately from the quarry for dedicated fluid removal operations.

What is the difference between the Quarry Plus and the Chunk Destroyer?

The Quarry Plus mines block by block with a visible drill head and supports fine-grained area control via markers. The Chunk Destroyer processes entire layers at once and is designed for massive-scale excavation, capable of flattening 16x16 chunk areas in under an hour. The Chunk Destroyer also uniquely supports collecting Bedrock as an item when the CollectBedrock config option is enabled.

Can machines break Bedrock?

Not by default. You need to enable the RemoveBedrock config option to allow machines to remove Bedrock (it gets destroyed, not collected). For the Chunk Destroyer specifically, you can also enable CollectBedrock to have it drop Bedrock as a collectible item.
