Blue Skies Mod Guide: Two Dimensions, Four Bosses & Complete Progression
Blue Skies adds two stunning new dimensions to Minecraft: the frozen, eternally bright Everbright and the warm, perpetually dawning Everdawn. Each dimension features unique biomes, hostile creatures, tameable mounts, five new ore tiers, four massive dungeon bosses, custom villages with new villager professions, and a full progression system that will keep you exploring for hours.
Overview
Blue Skies is a dimension mod that adds two parallel worlds to explore: the Everbright and the Everdawn. The Everbright is a frozen, snowy landscape bathed in eternal daylight, home to large beasts and ethereal spirits. The Everdawn is a warm, humid world stuck at perpetual sunrise, crawling with insects and reptiles. Each dimension contains two massive dungeons housing powerful bosses, unique ores for crafting new tools and armor, tameable mounts, custom villages, and a progression system that gates your access to later dungeons.
The mod requires Structure Gel API as a dependency, so make sure you have that installed alongside Blue Skies. Overworld tools and armor are significantly weakened in both dimensions, so you will need to craft new equipment from dimension-specific materials as soon as you arrive. Getting Started

Find the Gatekeeper
Search the Overworld for the Gatekeeper's house, which generates in Plains, Mountains, and most snowy biomes. The structure consists of a larger building with the Gatekeeper NPC and a smaller shed containing an unlit portal frame. Trade with the Gatekeeper to receive the Blue Journal (your in-game guidebook) and the
Zeal Lighter. - 2
Light the Portal
Find the portal frame in the Gatekeeper's shed. Right-click the frame with the
Zeal Lighter to activate it. The blue portal leads to the Everbright, and the red portal leads to the Everdawn. Both portals use the same lighter. Bring some Emeralds for trading, but don't worry about gearing up too much since your Overworld equipment won't work well in either dimension. - 3
Harvest Local Wood Immediately
As soon as you arrive, punch the nearest trees. In the Everbright, look for Bluebright, Starlit, or Frostbright trees. In the Everdawn, look for Lunar, Dusk, or Maple trees. Craft planks into dimension-specific Sticks (Bluebright Sticks or Lunar Sticks) and use them with local Cobblestone (Turquoise or Lunar) to make stone-tier tools. These are your bread and butter until you find ores.

Mine for Pyrope and Turquoise
Dig underground to find the first ores. Pyrope (red gem) is the fastest material in the mod but fragile, while Turquoise (blue gem) matches Iron in strength but has incredible enchantability (32, the highest in the mod). Both ores appear in both dimensions. You will also find
Moonstone, which serves as this dimension's light source, functioning like Torches but also working underwater. - 5
Tackle the Blinding Dungeon
Once you have mid-tier armor (Turquoise or Pyrope), seek out the Blinding Dungeon, a massive tower visible from a great distance. Explore its four side towers to collect four Blinding Keys from chests, then use them on the Keystone at the top to enter the boss arena. The Everbright tower houses the Summoner, while the Everdawn tower contains the Alchemist. Defeating the first boss unlocks access to the second dungeon.
Your Diamond armor, Enchanted Swords, and other Overworld gear will be heavily nerfed in both dimensions. The mod intentionally reduces the effectiveness of non-Blue Skies equipment, so crafting local tools and armor is not optional. Start gathering wood and mining ores the moment you arrive.
The Everbright
The Everbright is a realm of eternal day and frigid cold. Snowstorms periodically roll through, bringing thick fog and increased enemy spawns. The terrain is dominated by snow-covered forests, icy coastlines, and frozen oceans. Light sources do not prevent hostile mobs from spawning here, which makes the
Falsite ore's Warding Pearl particularly valuable.
Biomes
The Everbright contains nine distinct biomes. The Brightlands are open rolling landscapes with Starlit Trees. The Calming Skies are a mountainous variant without flowers. The Frostbitten Forest is a dense woodland of Bluebright and Frostbright trees where Snow Owls hoot across long distances. The Slush Lands feature lakes dotted with Chilled Lily Pads and Snow Cap Mushrooms. The Peeking Oceans (normal and deep variants) are home to Giddle Flatfish, Jelly Drifters, Sea Clams with harvestable Pearls, and Whistle Shell Crabs. The Pale Swamplands round out the landscape.
Everbright Mobs
The Stardust Ram (15 HP) is the Everbright's sheep equivalent. Shear them for wool or hunt them for Mutton. They can be bred with Pine Fruit. Reindeer (15 HP) are tameable mounts; feed them Pine Fruit to tame, then saddle up for fast traversal. They drop Venison, which can be cooked.
The Azulfo (20 HP, 4 armor) is a large bison-like creature that travels in herds. Attack one and the entire herd retaliates. They drop excellent Azulfo Beef (6 hunger when cooked) and occasionally Azulfo Horns, which can be crafted into 3 Bone Meal. They are one of the best food sources early on.
The Armored Frost Spirit is the most common hostile mob (3.0 attack damage). Critically, they take extra damage from Pickaxes, not Swords. After death, they release a harmless Frost Spirit (3 HP) that can drop
Soul Fragments and Star Flares. Star Flares function as the dimension's alternative light source. The Crynosaurus (25 HP, 5.0 attack damage) is a larger, more dangerous ice creature that also takes bonus damage from Pickaxes. The Diop Prowler is a fast feline predator that circles its prey before striking; using a Shield can stun it. The Shrumpy is a mushroom creature found in the Slush Lands that disguises itself as a Snow Cap Mushroom, inflicting Slowness on hit while cackling manically.
The Everdawn
The Everdawn is a dimension of eternal sunrise, warmth, and danger. Insects and reptiles thrive here, especially during rain when more hostile bugs appear. Prepare for Poison and Fire effects before entering, as many creatures and plants inflict them. The Crystal Dunes biome experiences sandstorms instead of rain.
Biomes
The Shaded Woodlands are dark forests of Dusk Trees, home to Fireflies and Cosmic Foxes. The Crystal Dunes are sandy expanses with
Moonstone Spikes and Crystal Flowers, inhabited by the dangerous Ember Back beetles and tameable Crystal Camels. The Sunset Maple Forest features orange Maple Trees and is one of the few places to find Sunstone Crystals for fuel. The Unorthodox Valley is a dramatic mountainous biome with soaring heights. The Moonlit Reservoir is a dismal wetland where Krogers (giant tameable frogs) hunt insects.
Everdawn Mobs
The Cosmic Fox (6 HP, 20 HP when tamed) drops Fox Pelts used to craft the Bag of Spoils. Tame them with Crescent Fruit, and they will follow your commands. The Shade Monitor is a lizard that adapts its texture to the surrounding biome; it drops cookable Monitor Tails and can be bred with any meat or fish. The Crystal Camel (30 HP) can be tamed with Scale Fruit, saddled for riding, and fitted with a Chest for mobile storage.
The Venom Spider (16 HP) has both a poison bite and a ranged poison spit attack. The Nycto Bug (20 HP) is a flying insect with a massive 40-block follow range, making it hard to escape. The Ember Back is a giant fire beetle with an AOE fire attack; it will detect Fire Resistance potions and switch to biting instead. It can be lured into water to drown. The Infested Swarmer is a speedy underground ant found in caves beneath the Crystal Dunes.
The Kroger is a giant frog found in the Moonlit Reservoir that can be tamed with Bug Guts (dropped by Nycto Bugs, Infested Swarmers, and Venom Spiders). Once tamed, it serves as a mount that works on both land and water, making it one of the best ways to traverse the Everdawn's diverse terrain.
Ores, Tools & Armor
Blue Skies adds six new ore types, four of which appear in both dimensions and two that are exclusive to one dimension each. All tool and armor recipes follow standard Minecraft patterns but require dimension-specific Sticks (Bluebright Sticks for Everbright recipes, Lunar Sticks for Everdawn recipes). Each ore has distinct strengths that make them useful for different purposes.
Shared Ores (Both Dimensions)
Pyrope is a red gem that produces the fastest tools in the mod (11.0 mining speed) but with very low durability (200 uses) and weak attack damage (5.5 on Swords). It is best used for quick mining when you don't need durability. Turquoise (also called Aquite in some versions) is a blue gem equivalent to Iron in damage and speed, but with an exceptional enchantability of 32, the highest of any material in the mod. This makes it ideal for enchanting. Diopside is a green gem and the strongest material available in both dimensions, with 1,600 durability (more than Diamond), harvest level 3, and 8.0 sword damage. It is slow (6.0 mining speed) but devastatingly powerful.
Charoite is a purple gem matching Diamond's durability (1,561 uses) with 8.0 mining speed and 7.5 sword damage. It is slightly less damaging than Diopside but faster, making it a well-rounded top-tier option.
Moonstone
Moonstone appears in both dimensions and functions as the primary light source. Unlike Torches, Moonstone works underwater and serves as a portable lighting solution. Four Moonstone Shards craft into 2 Moonstone blocks. It can also be crafted into Pressure Plates and a transparent Moonstone Shield with more durability than a standard Wooden Shield. Critically, normal light sources do not prevent hostile mob spawns in these dimensions, so you will need alternative methods like the Warding Pearl to secure areas.
Everbright-Exclusive Ores
Falsite is a metal exclusive to the Everbright found in non-mountainous biomes. It cannot be made into tools or armor directly. Its primary uses are crafting the Warding Pearl (a lantern-like block that prevents hostile spawns in a large radius, crafted with
Soul Fragments and a Pearl) and repairing tools via the Toolbox. Ventium is the Everbright's iron equivalent for utility items. It is used to craft Ventium Buckets (which can capture ocean entities),
Ventium Shears, and Toolbox components. Ventium Buckets stack to 16 when empty.
Everdawn-Exclusive Ore
Horizonite is a hot orange metal found only underground in the Crystal Dunes biome. Tools crafted from it can auto-smelt ores as you mine them (the Pickaxe smelts ore drops instantly). With 250 durability, 7.0 mining speed, and 7.5 sword damage at harvest level 3, it sits between Iron and Diamond in power. Its Sword also sets targets on fire. Horizonite is used to build the Horizonite Forge, a fuelless furnace that operates on a recharge timer. Recharge it instantly with any Horizonite item, or use Sunstone Crystals found in Sunset Maple Forests and Searing Grasslands.

Shadow Armor is the strongest armor set in the mod with 20 total armor points (matching
Charoite) but 3.0 toughness (the highest available), a durability factor of 33, and enchantability of 10. It is not craftable and can only be obtained as a rare drop from boss loot bags. If you find a piece, treasure it.

Everbright Tool Sets




Special Equipment & Utility
Spears
Spears are a new weapon type crafted from any Blue Skies wood with
Moonstone. They function like Tridents, dealing 4 base melee damage with varying attack speeds depending on the wood type used. They can be thrown for roughly double their melee damage, enchanted with Piercing and Loyalty, and even work underwater. Spears are essential for stunning the Starlit Crusher boss and are effective at range against circling Diop Prowlers.
The Toolbox
The Toolbox is a workstation block that uses Falsite to repair and enhance tools from either dimension. Place any Blue Skies tool alongside Falsite Ingots to add 40 extra durability. This process can be repeated indefinitely, making Falsite an extremely valuable resource for maintaining your gear. The Toolbox also allows you to swap the stick type in tools, changing their appearance.
Bag of Spoils
Craft Fox Pelts (from Cosmic Foxes) into a Bag of Spoils, which functions as a mini Shulker Box holding 5 stacks. Place it with Shift+Click and pick it back up with all contents intact. The Bag also serves as a workstation for the Night Watcher villager profession. Sneaking while clicking on other villagers with the Bag lets you steal items from them, but getting caught raises trade prices.
Snow Cap Oven
Found in the Everbright, the Snow Cap Oven smelts items by extracting heat from warm objects placed inside. Instead of fuel, it requires items with inherent heat (Magma Cream, Jack-o'-Lanterns, Magma Blocks, Lava Buckets, etc.). Occasionally it leaves behind a frozen byproduct. This is a unique cooking method for when conventional fuel is scarce.
Horizonite Forge
The Everdawn's answer to the Furnace, the Horizonite Forge smelts items without any fuel at all. However, it has a recharge timer between uses. Recharge it instantly with anything made of Horizonite, or use Sunstone Crystals (found in Sunset Maple Forests and Searing Grasslands) for a cheaper option.
Star Emitter & Astrolabe
The Star Emitter is a block that works in tandem with the Astrolabe item (purchased from Stargazer villagers). Link an Astrolabe to a Star Emitter, and you can teleport back to that location from a moderate distance at the cost of experience. This provides a local fast-travel system within the dimensions.
Villages & Villager Professions
Custom villages generate in specific biomes in both dimensions. Everbright villages appear in Brightlands, Calming Skies, and Slush Lands. Everdawn villages generate in Sunset Maple Forests, Shaded Woodlands, and Crystal Dunes. These villages contain new workstation blocks that unlock five unique villager professions.
The Gatekeeper trades the Blue Journal,
Zeal Lighter, and dungeon keys (if you cannot find them naturally). The Wrangler (workstation: Trough) sells cooked meats and food items. The Trough itself speeds up baby animal growth when placed near livestock and filled with vegetables. The Shoveler (workstation: Toolbox) trades dimension ores and sells enchanted shovels, including
Charoite Shovels at higher levels. The Stargazer (workstation: Star Emitter) sells Astrolabes,
Moonstone Lanterns, and treasure maps to dungeon locations. The Night Watcher (workstation: Bag of Spoils) stays awake at night and trades stolen goods for Emeralds.
Food & Farming
Both dimensions add crops that can be planted on dimension-specific Farmland (till Turquoise Grass/Dirt for the Everbright, Lunar Grass/Dirt for the Everdawn). Seeds are obtained by crafting the harvested crop.
Cabbage, Tomatoes,
Corn, and Green Beans all restore 4 hunger. Peanuts restore 2 hunger but have higher saturation.
Cryo Root (Everbright) restores 3 hunger but has a 5% chance to inflict Nausea.
Brewberries come in three colors depending on the soil. Normal Brewberries grow on regular dirt, Pink Brewberries grow on
Cherry Grass and grant brief Regeneration III when eaten, and Black Brewberries grow on Mycelium and cure Poison effects. Nectarines (5 hunger, found on
Nectarine Trees in the Everdawn) and
Azulfo Steak (6 hunger, from cooked Azulfo Beef) are the best food sources in the mod.

Dungeons & Boss Fights
Blue Skies features four major dungeons, two in each dimension. The bosses follow a progression system: you must defeat the Blinding Dungeon boss before gaining access to the second dungeon in each dimension. Attempting to skip ahead triggers nasty debuff effects. Each boss drops a trophy and a loot bag whose rarity scales with difficulty (Bronze on Easy, Silver on Normal, Gold on Hard). Loot bags can contain Arc items, unique weapons, and rare equipment.
The Frozen Bunker (Mini-Dungeon)
Before tackling the main dungeons, you may stumble across Frozen Bunkers in the Everbright. These small structures appear as brick mounds with a trapdoor on top. Drop down to find four rooms, each containing an Armored Frost Spirit spawner and chests with decent early-game loot including tools, armor pieces, and enchanted books. This is a great way to gear up before the main bosses.
The Summoner (Everbright Blinding Dungeon)
The Summoner has 500 HP and is an extremely mobile Illager-type boss. He teleports frequently, making consistent hits difficult. He summons Artificial Golems (10 HP each) to attack you, with both melee and ranged Golem variants. He fires purple magic spheres and can summon lightning strikes. At half health he enters Phase 2, gaining Regeneration and summoning more aggressive minions. Focus on clearing Golems quickly to avoid being overwhelmed, then strike the Summoner during his spell-casting animations when he briefly stops teleporting.
Defeating the Summoner can yield the Summoning Tome, which lets you cast the same spells as the Summoner using a Summoning Table with
Soul Fragments. You can choose between a damaging purple beam or summoning your own loyal minion.
The Alchemist (Everdawn Blinding Dungeon)
The Alchemist has 500 HP and fights with potions and physical constructs. In Phase 1 he has four attacks: lingering Poison potions in the room corners (lasting 11 seconds), a 5-second Blindness effect, triple arrow volleys with a 3-second charge-up, and lines of Decaying Spikes aimed directly at you. At half health, Phase 2 begins with two new abilities: Regeneration V (which can be cancelled by hitting him) and converting the room's water fountains into lava. Watch for his charge-up animations and dodge the Spikes by moving perpendicular to his line of sight.
The Alchemist can drop the Alchemy Scroll, which lets you cast his spells at enemies.
The Starlit Crusher (Everbright Nature Dungeon)
The Nature Dungeon is a massive green pyramid with four floors. Each floor contains Stonelet spawners (weak golems vulnerable to Pickaxes) and one
dungeon key. The Starlit Crusher is a sentient tree boss that protects itself with wooden walls. While the walls are up, it summons hostile Wooden Snow Owls and Sputures (mushroom creatures that spit seeds). You must chop through a wall with an Axe (required), then stun it with a Spear throw, and only then can you damage it with an Axe. No other weapon type works on this boss. Its attacks include ground slams, spinning root attacks, and summoning roots beneath you.
The Starlit Crusher can drop the Crushing Hammer, a powerful weapon that slams the ground to damage and launch surrounding mobs.
The Arachnarch (Everdawn Poison Dungeon)
The Poison Dungeon appears as a large hollowed Maple tree covered in cobwebs. It descends underground through four maze-like floors filled with Venom Spiders. Collect one key per floor, then face the Arachnarch in the lowest depths. This giant spider boss can climb the ceiling (making it unreachable), spray poison over the entire floor, lunge at targets from range, and grab players to lift them into the air for massive fall damage. When it lunges, block with a Shield to stun it and create an opening to attack. Summoned spider reinforcements crawl from the walls throughout the fight.
You must defeat the Blinding Dungeon boss (Summoner or Alchemist) before attempting the second dungeon in each dimension. Trying to skip ahead inflicts severe debuffs that make the fight nearly impossible. Follow the intended progression: Blinding Dungeon first, then Nature/Poison Dungeon second.
Arcs & Boss Respawning
Boss loot bags can contain Arcs, equippable upgrade items that provide passive abilities. Right-click an Arc to equip it (accessible from a special tab in your inventory), and only one Arc of each type can be active at a time. There are seven Arc types: Dusk, Poisonous, Hellfire, Wildlife, Aquatic, Runic, and Ethereal. The
Ethereal Arc boosts movement speed, while other Arcs provide combat-related effects.
To respawn a defeated boss, use its Arc on the dungeon Keystone. This spawns the boss at a higher difficulty tier (Easy uses Bronze keys, Normal uses Silver, Hard uses Gold), potentially yielding better loot and different colored trophies. This system encourages repeated boss farming for rare drops and trophy collection.
Music Discs & Collectibles
Blue Skies includes five custom music discs with an original soundtrack: "
Welcome to the Sky", "
Calm Waters", "
Voyage", "
Devine", and "
Soul", all composed by Voyed. These discs can be found in dungeon loot or traded from villagers. The Blue Journal item fills with more pages as you progress through the mod, serving as an in-game encyclopedia. Lost Pages can be found as loot to unlock additional journal entries about specific topics like mushrooms, berries, and trees.
Configuration
Blue Skies has a small config file with a few useful options. The Everbright dimension ID defaults to 76 and the Everdawn to 77; change these if they conflict with other dimension mods. Visual effects including snowstorm fog, wind sound effects in snowstorms, and sandstorm wind sounds can each be individually toggled. Boss music can also be disabled if you prefer your own soundtrack. There is an "Extra Bookmark" option that adds a customizable tab to the Blue Journal, useful for server operators who want to add custom information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring Overworld Diamond gear into the dimensions?
You can bring it, but it will be significantly weakened. Blue Skies intentionally nerfs Overworld tools and armor when used in either dimension. Your Diamond armor bar will not even show half protection. Craft local equipment as your first priority after arriving.
Where do I find Falsite and what is it used for?
Falsite is exclusive to the Everbright and found in non-mountainous biomes underground. It cannot be made into tools or armor. Its two main uses are crafting the Warding Pearl (which prevents hostile mob spawns in a large radius, essential since normal light does not stop spawns here) and repairing tools in the Toolbox with +40 durability per application.
Which dimension should I explore first?
Either dimension works as a starting point since both share the core ores (Pyrope, Turquoise, Diopside,
Charoite). The Everbright is slightly easier for beginners because its mobs are more straightforward (carry a Pickaxe for Frost Spirits). The Everdawn has more poison and fire hazards. Many players start with the Everbright, then move to the Everdawn once they have mid-tier gear.
How do I get dungeon keys if I can't find them all?
If you interact with a dungeon Keystone without enough keys, the Gatekeeper will unlock trades allowing you to purchase the missing keys for Emeralds. You can also trade Starlit Saplings and
Nature Stone with the Gatekeeper for Nature Dungeon keys specifically.
What is the best armor set in Blue Skies?
Shadow Armor is the best overall (20 armor, 3.0 toughness, durability factor 33), but it can only be obtained from boss loot bags. For craftable armor,
Charoite is the strongest with 20 armor points, 2.0 toughness, and the same durability factor as Shadow (33). Diopside and Turquoise tie at 15 armor points but Turquoise has better enchantability. Use Turquoise for enchanting and Charoite for combat.
Does Blue Skies work with JEI and minimaps?
Yes, Blue Skies has built-in support for Just Enough Items (JEI) to browse all recipes and for Xaero's Minimap. BlueMap is also supported for mapping the new dimensions.
