Cable Tiers Mod Guide: Upgraded Refined Storage Devices for Faster Automation
Cable Tiers supercharges your Refined Storage network by adding three upgrade tiers to six core devices. Elite, Ultra, and Creative versions of the Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Manipulator, and Requester bring dramatically faster speeds, more filter slots, and built-in Stack Upgrade functionality.
Overview
Cable Tiers is an addon for Refined Storage that adds three upgraded tiers of six essential network devices: the Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Manipulator, and Requester. Each tier offers progressively more filter slots, faster operation speeds, and built-in upgrade functionality that eliminates the need for certain upgrade cards. If you've ever found yourself placing rows and rows of Importers just to keep up with a fast farm, or stacking Exporters because a single one can't keep pace with your autocrafting, this mod solves that problem with single-block replacements that work many times faster.
The three tiers follow a clear progression. Elite devices run at 2x speed with 18 filter slots. Ultra devices jump to 6x speed with 36 filter slots and a built-in Stack Upgrade. Creative devices process items instantly with 54 filter slots, a built-in Stack Upgrade, and zero energy cost. You can browse all items and recipes this mod adds using the tabs at the top of this page.
Prerequisites
Cable Tiers requires Refined Storage to be installed and functional. You should already have a working Refined Storage network with a Controller, storage disks, and at least basic devices like Importers and Exporters before upgrading to tiered versions. The Requester devices additionally require RSRequestify to be installed, as the base Requester block comes from that mod.
Every recipe in this mod requires Advanced Processors (for Elite and Ultra tiers) or Dragon Heads (for Creative tier), so make sure you have Advanced Processor crafting set up through Refined Storage before diving in. You'll also need significant quantities of Iron Blocks, Diamond Blocks, and Netherite Blocks depending on which tier you're targeting.
Getting Started
- 1
Identify Your Bottleneck
Before crafting any tiered devices, figure out where your Refined Storage network is struggling. Are your Importers too slow to keep up with a mob farm? Are Exporters backing up when feeding machines? Are you using dozens of the same device in a row? Those are the devices you should upgrade first.
- 2
Craft Advanced Processors
Every tiered device recipe requires an Advanced Processor at its center. Stock up on these before you start. You'll need one Advanced Processor per device, and if you plan to build full sets of Elite devices and then upgrade them to Ultra, that's two Processors per device total.
- 3
Build Your First Elite Device
Surround four of the base Refined Storage device with Iron Blocks in the corners and an Advanced Processor in the center. For example, four Importers plus four Iron Blocks plus one Advanced Processor gives you an Elite Importer. Place it on your network and notice the expanded filter grid and improved speed immediately.
- 4
Upgrade to Ultra When Ready
Once Elite devices aren't cutting it anymore, upgrade to Ultra. The recipe follows the same pattern but uses Diamond Blocks in the corners and four of the Elite device instead of the base version. Ultra devices have a built-in Stack Upgrade, so you can remove any Stack Upgrades you were using and free up upgrade slots for Speed or Crafting Upgrades instead.
- 5
Reconfigure Your Network
With tiered devices, you can often replace multiple base devices with a single upgraded one. An Ultra Importer with 36 filter slots running at 6x speed can replace several standard Importers. Consolidate your network, reduce cable clutter, and enjoy the extra filter slots for more precise item filtering.
All Cable Tiers recipes follow the same 3x3 pattern: four of the previous tier device on the cardinal sides, four material blocks in the corners (Iron for Elite, Diamond for Ultra, Netherite for Creative), and an Advanced Processor in the center (or Dragon Head for Creative). This applies to all six device types.
Elite Tier Devices
Elite devices are your first upgrade from standard Refined Storage equipment. They operate at 2x the base speed and provide 18 filter slots (double the standard 9). The energy cost is 2x the base device cost. Elite devices still accept a Stack Upgrade in their upgrade slots, meaning you need to install one manually if you want full-stack transfers. They also accept Speed and Crafting Upgrades just like the base versions.
Elite Importer & Exporter
The Elite Importer pulls items into your network twice as fast as a standard Importer. It supports whitelist/blacklist filtering across 18 slots and can handle both items and fluids. The Elite Exporter pushes items out of your network at the same 2x speed with support for Crafting, Regulator, Speed, and Stack Upgrades. Both devices support cable covers for a clean look.
Elite Constructor & Destructor
The Elite Constructor places blocks or drops items from your network at 2x speed, with 2 filter slots (the base Constructor only has 1). It supports drop mode for dispensing items and can place fluids from your network. The Elite Destructor breaks blocks and absorbs them into storage at 2x speed with 18 filter slots and whitelist/blacklist support. Destructor upgrades include Silk Touch and Fortune I/II/III, identical to the base version.
Elite Disk Manipulator
The Elite Disk Manipulator has 12 disk slots total (6 input, 6 output), double the base version's 6 slots. It transfers items between disks and your network with Speed and Stack Upgrade support. The interaction count is multiplied by the configured speed multiplier (default 2x), making bulk disk operations significantly faster.
Elite Requester
The
Elite Requester (requires RSRequestify) monitors your network and automatically requests crafting when stock falls below the configured amount. It offers 18 filter slots and a maximum craft request amount of 2,000 items per batch. The energy cost follows the same 2x multiplier as other Elite devices.
Ultra Tier Devices
Ultra devices represent a major jump in capability. They run at 6x base speed, provide 36 filter slots, and include a built-in Stack Upgrade. This means Ultra Importers and Exporters transfer full stacks without needing a Stack Upgrade card, freeing up all four upgrade slots for Speed and Crafting Upgrades. The energy cost multiplier is 4x the base device.
The Ultra Disk Manipulator expands to 18 disk slots (9 input, 9 output) and transfers items at a rate of 64 times the configured speed multiplier (default 6x). With the built-in stack transfer, it moves items between disks and your network at extraordinary speed. The
Ultra Requester can batch craft requests up to 6,000 items at a time, triple the Elite's 2,000 limit.
Ultra and Creative tier Importers, Exporters, and Constructors have the Stack Upgrade functionality built in. You do not need to (and cannot) install a Stack Upgrade card in these devices. This means every transfer operation already handles full stacks, and your upgrade slots are free for Speed or Crafting Upgrades. For Elite tier devices, you still need to install a Stack Upgrade manually.
Creative Tier Devices
Creative tier devices are the endgame of Cable Tiers. They process items every single tick with no speed delay, provide 54 filter slots, and cost zero energy to run. The Creative Importer will drain an entire inventory in one tick. The Creative Exporter will push everything matching its filters in a single tick, looping through all filter slots until the target inventory is full.
The Creative Disk Manipulator has 24 disk slots (12 input, 12 output) and transfers Integer.MAX_VALUE items per operation, effectively moving entire disk contents in one tick. The
Creative Requester has no craft amount limit and can request unlimited items from your autocrafting system. The Creative Destructor uses a virtual Netherite Pickaxe internally (compared to Diamond for other tiers), and accepts Silk Touch and Fortune upgrades.
Crafting Creative tier devices requires Netherite Blocks in the corners and a Dragon Head in the center, meaning you need to have defeated the Ender Dragon. Each Creative device requires four of the corresponding Ultra device, making these extremely expensive to produce in survival.
Creative tier devices have a default energy cost multiplier of 0, meaning they use no energy at all. However, this is configurable by server administrators. If a server has set the Creative energy cost to a non-zero value, these devices can become extremely expensive to power since the base formula multiplies the device's usage by 4 and then by the config multiplier.

Upgrade Slot Differences by Tier
Each tier changes which upgrades are available in the device's four upgrade slots. Understanding these differences is important for getting the most out of your tiered devices.
For Importers and Exporters, Elite accepts Speed, Stack, Crafting, and Regulator Upgrades. Ultra removes the Stack Upgrade option (it's built in) but keeps Speed, Crafting, and Regulator. Creative devices have very limited upgrade options since most functionality is built in: Exporters only accept Crafting and Regulator Upgrades, while Creative Importers have no upgrade slots at all.
The Destructor is unique because all tiers accept the same upgrades: Silk Touch and Fortune I/II/III. These are the same upgrades the base Refined Storage Destructor accepts. The key difference is that the Creative Destructor uses a virtual Netherite Pickaxe internally, while other tiers use a Diamond Pickaxe.
Disk Manipulators follow the same pattern as Importers: Elite accepts Speed and Stack, Ultra accepts only Speed (Stack is built in), and Creative has no upgrade slots. Constructors match Exporters minus the Regulator: Elite gets Speed, Stack, and Crafting; Ultra gets Speed and Crafting; Creative gets only Crafting.
Configuration
Cable Tiers provides extensive configuration options through its config file. Every speed multiplier and energy cost is adjustable per tier, letting server administrators balance the mod to their liking.
Speed values for Elite Importers and Exporters are configurable from 1 to 9 (default 2). Constructor and Destructor speeds range from 1 to 20 (default 2 for Elite). Ultra speeds follow the same ranges but default to 6. The Requester's maximum craft amount is independently configurable per tier, defaulting to 2,000 for Elite and 6,000 for Ultra. Energy cost multipliers can be set from 0 to any integer value, with defaults of 2 for Elite, 4 for Ultra, and 0 for Creative.
If you're playing on a server where tiered devices feel too fast or too slow, ask the server administrator to check the Cable Tiers config. All values are in the common config file and can be changed without restarting the game.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need RSRequestify installed for the Requester devices?
Yes. The tiered Requester devices are upgrades to the Requester block from RSRequestify. Without that mod installed, the Requester recipes and functionality won't be available, but all other Cable Tiers devices (Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Manipulator) will work fine with just Refined Storage.
Can I use cable covers on tiered devices?
Yes. The tiered Importer, Exporter, Constructor, and Destructor all support Refined Storage cable covers, just like their base versions. You can use covers to hide the devices and maintain a clean aesthetic in your builds.
Why does my Ultra Exporter not accept Stack Upgrades?
Ultra and Creative tier devices have the Stack Upgrade built in. They always transfer in full-stack quantities without needing the upgrade card. This is a feature, not a bug. The upgrade slot space is freed up for other upgrades like Speed or Crafting.
How much energy do tiered devices use?
The energy formula is: 4 × (base device usage + upgrade energy usage) × tier multiplier. Elite uses a 2x multiplier, Ultra uses 4x, and Creative uses 0x (completely free). The base device usage comes from Refined Storage's own config. If your Controller is struggling to power many tiered devices, consider upgrading your energy infrastructure or using Creative tier devices for their zero energy cost.
Can I craft Creative tier devices in survival mode?
Yes, but they're extremely expensive. Each Creative device requires four Ultra devices (which themselves each require four Elite devices), eight Netherite Blocks, and a Dragon Head. A single Creative Importer effectively requires 16 base Importers, 16 Iron Blocks, 4 Advanced Processors for the Elite tier, 16 Elite Importers, 16 Diamond Blocks, another 4 Advanced Processors for Ultra, and then 8 Netherite Blocks plus a Dragon Head for the final craft.
Do tiered Destructors support Fortune and Silk Touch?
Yes. All tiered Destructors (Elite, Ultra, and Creative) accept Silk Touch, Fortune I, Fortune II, and Fortune III upgrades, identical to the base Refined Storage Destructor. The Creative Destructor additionally uses a virtual Netherite Pickaxe internally instead of a Diamond Pickaxe, which doesn't change functionality but matches the endgame theme.
