DimStorage Mod Guide: Dimensional Chests, Tanks & Tablet
DimStorage adds a technological take on cross-dimensional storage with the Dimensional Chest, Dimensional Tank, and Dimensional Tablet. Share items and fluids across any distance or dimension using configurable frequency channels, with support for private networks and automation features.
Overview
DimStorage is a streamlined storage mod that gives you access to shared inventories and fluid tanks from anywhere in any dimension. Think of it as an upgraded Ender Chest system with multiple channels, private ownership, locking, and automation features. The mod adds three main items: the Dimensional Chest for item storage, the Dimensional Tank for fluid storage, and the
Dimensional Tablet for portable chest access and auto-collection.
Every Dimensional Chest and Tank operates on a frequency channel system. Place two Dimensional Chests set to the same frequency, and they share the same 54-slot inventory regardless of distance or dimension. The same principle applies to Dimensional Tanks, which share a 16,000 mB fluid buffer. You can browse all the mod's recipes and items using the tabs on this page.
Getting Started
- 1
Craft the Component Materials
DimStorage has two crafting components you need to make first. The Dim C Ore (
Dimensional Core) is crafted from Iron Ingots, Redstone, and a Diamond. The Dim Wall uses Iron Ingots, Redstone, and an Ender Pearl, producing 4 per craft. You will need both of these for every DimStorage block. - 2
Make the Solid Dim Core
Surround a Dim C Ore with 8 Iron Ingots to create a Solid Dim C Ore (
Solid Dimensional Core). This is the key ingredient in every functional DimStorage block and the
Dimensional Tablet. - 3
Build Your First Dimensional Chest
Craft a Dimensional Chest using 8 Dim Walls surrounding a Solid Dim Core. Place it down and right-click to open the GUI. You will see a 54-slot inventory (same size as a Double Chest) along with settings on the right side for owner, frequency, and lock controls.
- 4
Set a Frequency and Place a Second Chest
By default, every new Dimensional Chest starts on frequency 1. Type a new number into the frequency text field and click the change button to switch channels. Now craft and place a second Dimensional Chest with the same frequency. Both chests will share the exact same inventory; items placed in one appear instantly in the other.
- 5
Set Up Ownership and Locking
If you are on a multiplayer server, click the Owner button to toggle between public and private. A private chest is tied to your player UUID, so only you can access that frequency. You can also toggle the Lock button to prevent pipes and hoppers from interacting with the chest, while still allowing manual player access.
Crafting Components
DimStorage uses a tiered crafting component system. Everything starts with the two base components: the Dim C Ore (
Dimensional Core) and the Dim Wall. The Dim C Ore requires a Diamond as its center, while the Dim Wall uses an Ender Pearl. Both recipes surround the center material with alternating Iron Ingots and Redstone. The Dim Wall recipe produces 4 per craft, so a single batch is enough for one Dimensional Chest.
The Solid Dim C Ore is the second-tier component made by surrounding a Dim C Ore with Iron Ingots. This goes into the center of every Dimensional Chest, Tank, and Tablet recipe. Plan your Iron supply accordingly, as a full set of DimStorage blocks requires a significant amount of Iron Ingots.
A single Dimensional Chest requires 1 Diamond, 1 Ender Pearl, 28 Iron Ingots, and 8 Redstone in total when accounting for the components. A Dimensional Tank costs roughly the same but swaps in Glass blocks and a Cauldron. Gather materials before you start crafting.
Dimensional Chest
The Dimensional Chest is the centerpiece of the mod. It provides a 54-slot shared inventory (equivalent to a Double Chest) that is accessible from any Dimensional Chest set to the same frequency, regardless of dimension. The block has a hardness of 5.0 and uses Stone sounds. It outputs a Redstone Comparator signal based on how full the inventory is, making it easy to integrate with Redstone automation.
Frequency System
Each Dimensional Chest has a frequency channel (any positive integer) and an ownership setting (public or private). Two chests share inventory only when they have the same frequency AND the same ownership. A public chest on frequency 5 is a completely separate inventory from a private chest on frequency 5 owned by a different player. The default frequency for new chests is 1.
Collect Mode
The Dimensional Chest has a unique Collect button in its GUI. When enabled, the chest scans nearby inventories within a configurable diameter (default 3x3 area) and automatically pulls items from them into the shared storage. This works with any block that has an inventory, including Furnaces, Barrels, and modded machines. Items are pulled from the bottom/down side of neighboring inventories. The chest checks every second (20 ticks) and will not pull from other DimStorage blocks to avoid loops.

Dimensional Tank
The Dimensional Tank works exactly like the Dimensional Chest but for fluids. It stores up to 16,000 mB (16 Buckets) of any single fluid type per frequency channel, shared across all tanks on that frequency. The block uses Glass material with a hardness of 1.0 and has a slightly smaller hitbox than a full block (2 to 14 pixels on the X and Z axes). It supports waterlogging and will emit light matching whatever fluid it contains, so a tank full of Lava will glow.
Fluid Interaction
Right-click the tank with a filled Bucket to deposit fluid, or with an empty Bucket to extract. The tank also works with any mod's fluid handling system through the Forge fluid capability. It outputs a Comparator signal based on how many full Buckets are stored (the signal equals the fluid amount divided by 1,000).
Auto-Eject
The Dimensional Tank has an Auto-Eject toggle in its GUI. When enabled, the tank will push up to 100 mB per tick into any adjacent fluid handler on all six sides. This makes it easy to distribute fluids from a central source. The tank will not eject into another Dimensional Tank on the same frequency to prevent infinite loops, but it will eject into tanks on different frequencies.
Dimensional Tank Recipe

Place a Dimensional Tank with Auto-Eject next to machines that need fluid (like a Tinkers' Construct Smeltery or an Industrial Foregoing machine). Fill the tank from anywhere using another Dimensional Tank on the same frequency, and the Auto-Eject will keep those machines topped off automatically.
Dimensional Tablet
The
Dimensional Tablet is a portable item that gives you access to a Dimensional Chest's inventory from anywhere, without needing to be near the chest. It does not stack (max stack size of 1). To use it, you first need to link it to a specific Dimensional Chest.
Linking
Sneak and right-click a Dimensional Chest with the Tablet to bind it to that chest's frequency. The Tablet will display "Linked to chest" in green text on success. You can only link to chests you have access to. Once linked, right-click the Tablet in your hand (without sneaking) to open the chest's 54-slot inventory remotely. Hold Shift while hovering over the Tablet in your inventory to see the linked frequency and owner.
Auto-Collect
The Tablet has an auto-collect feature that automatically transfers specific items from your inventory into the linked Dimensional Chest while the Tablet is in your inventory. Toggle this by sneaking and right-clicking any non-DimChest block. The items it collects are defined in the server configuration file, defaulting to common mining debris: Dirt, Gold Ore, Cobblestone, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Gravel, Sandstone, Netherrack, and Soul Sand.

Locking and Pipe Interaction
Both the Dimensional Chest and Dimensional Tank have a Lock toggle accessible through the GUI. When a chest or tank is locked, it blocks external automation access entirely. Hoppers, pipes, conduits, and any other item or fluid handlers cannot insert into or extract from a locked DimStorage block. Players can still open the GUI and interact manually. This is useful on servers where you want other players on the same public frequency to access the GUI but not drain the contents with automated systems.
When unlocked, Dimensional Chests fully support the Forge item handler capability, meaning they work with virtually every modded pipe, conduit, and logistics system. Dimensional Tanks similarly expose the Forge fluid handler capability. Only the chest or tank owner (or players on a public frequency) can break the block. If a non-owner tries to break a private DimStorage block, nothing happens.
Breaking a Dimensional Chest does not destroy the items inside it. The inventory persists on that frequency. You can pick up and replace the chest freely. However, if you break a chest that you set to a private frequency, make sure you remember the frequency number, as you will need to re-enter it on the new chest.
Commands
DimStorage registers two command aliases: /dimtablet and /dimstorage (both do the same thing). These commands manage the
Dimensional Tablet's auto-collect item list. Hold the item you want to add or remove in your main hand, then use the appropriate subcommand.
Tablet Commands
| /dimtablet add | Add the held item to the auto-collect list |
| /dimtablet remove | Remove the held item from the auto-collect list |
| /dimtablet removeAll | Clear the entire auto-collect list |
| /dimtablet list | Display all items currently on the auto-collect list |
Configuration
DimStorage's server configuration file contains four settings that server operators should know about. The allowFrequency option (default: true) controls whether players can change the frequency on Dimensional Chests and Tanks. Disabling this locks all chests to frequency 1. The allowPrivateNetwork option (default: true) controls whether players can set chests and tanks to private ownership. When disabled, all storage is public.
The diameter setting (default: 3, range: 3 to 7) controls the area the Dimensional Chest's Collect mode scans for nearby inventories. A diameter of 3 means a 3x3 area centered on the chest. Increasing this to 7 allows the chest to pull from inventories up to 3 blocks away in each direction.
The list setting defines which items the
Dimensional Tablet's auto-collect feature will pick up from your inventory. By default, it includes Dirt, Gold Ore, Cobblestone, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Gravel, Sandstone, Netherrack, and Soul Sand. You can modify this list through the config file or using the /dimtablet commands in-game.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Dimensional Chests work across dimensions?
Yes. The storage is managed globally by the DimStorageManager, not per-dimension. A Dimensional Chest in the Overworld on frequency 5 shares the same inventory as one in the Nether on frequency 5, as long as ownership matches.
What happens if I break a Dimensional Chest? Are my items lost?
No. The inventory is stored on the frequency, not in the block itself. Breaking the chest simply removes the access point. Place a new Dimensional Chest, set it to the same frequency and owner, and all your items will be there.
Can other players access my private Dimensional Chest?
No. Private ownership is tied to your player UUID. Other players cannot open, break, or interact with your private DimStorage blocks. However, a player in creative mode (with operator permissions) can bypass this restriction.
Does the Dimensional Tank work with modded pipes and fluid systems?
Yes. The Dimensional Tank exposes the standard Forge fluid handler capability, so it works with any mod that uses Forge's fluid API, including Mekanism, Thermal Expansion, Ender IO, and others. Just make sure the tank is not locked, as locking disables external automation access.
How do I change which items the Dimensional Tablet auto-collects?
Hold the item you want to add in your main hand and run /dimtablet add. To remove an item, hold it and run /dimtablet remove. You can also edit the list directly in the server config file under the "list" setting in the general category.
Is there a limit to how many frequencies I can use?
The frequency is stored as a standard Java integer, so you can use any positive whole number. There is no practical limit. Each unique combination of frequency number and ownership creates a separate storage instance.
