Enchanting Infuser

An all new enchanting table: Choose your enchantments for fair prices! Plus no more randomness!

Enchanting Infuser Mod Guide: Choose Your Enchantments, No More Randomness

The Enchanting Infuser mod replaces Minecraft's random enchanting system with a selection-based one. Place your item, pick exactly which enchantments you want, and pay a fair level cost. The Advanced tier adds item repair, book enchanting, and the ability to modify existing enchantments.

Overview

The Enchanting Infuser is a straightforward replacement for the vanilla Enchanting Table. Instead of rolling random enchantments and hoping for the best, you place your item into the Infuser and see every compatible enchantment listed in a scrollable menu. Click the enchantments you want, increase them to your desired level, and confirm the enchantment for a transparent level cost. No more cycling through Lapis Lazuli hoping for Sharpness V.

The mod adds two blocks: the standard Enchanting Infuser and the Advanced Enchanting Infuser. The standard version handles basic enchanting with full control over enchantment selection. The Advanced version unlocks additional features including item repair, book enchanting, the ability to modify already-enchanted items, and access to anvil-only enchantments like Sharpness on Axes. Both blocks still require Bookshelves for enchanting power, just like the vanilla table.

You can browse all items and recipes this mod adds using the tabs at the top of this page.

Getting Started

  1. 1

    Gather Your Materials

To craft the basic Enchanting Infuser, you'll need a vanilla Enchanting Table, 2 Amethyst Shards, 3 Crying Obsidian, and 1 Book. If you don't already have an Enchanting Table, that requires 4 Obsidian, 2 Diamonds, and 1 Book. Amethyst Shards come from Amethyst Clusters found in Amethyst Geodes underground, and Crying Obsidian can be obtained from Ruined Portals, Piglin bartering, or Nether Portal ruins.

  2. 2

    Craft the Enchanting Infuser

Combine your materials in a Crafting Table. The Enchanting Table goes in the center, flanked by Crying Obsidian on both sides and along the bottom, with Amethyst Shards in the left and right of the top row and a Book in the top center. The result is your Enchanting Infuser, ready to place.

  3. 3

    Set Up Bookshelves

The Enchanting Infuser uses the same Bookshelf mechanic as the vanilla Enchanting Table. Place Bookshelves one block away from the Infuser with an air gap between them. You need up to 15 Bookshelves for maximum enchanting power. The more Bookshelves you have, the higher-level enchantments become available. Chiseled Bookshelves also work, with every 3 books stored counting as 1 point of enchanting power.

  4. 4

    Enchant Your First Item

Right-click the Infuser to open its interface. Place an enchantable item (a Sword, Pickaxe, armor piece, etc.) into the slot on the left. A list of all compatible enchantments will appear, sorted by rarity. Click the plus button next to an enchantment to increase its level, or the minus button to decrease it. The total level cost is shown at the bottom. When you're satisfied with your selections, click the enchant button to apply them.

  5. 5

    Upgrade to Advanced (Optional)

Once you have Netherite Ingots, you can upgrade to the Advanced Enchanting Infuser. This version costs less (maximum 20 levels vs. 30), lets you enchant Books, modify already-enchanted items, repair tools and armor, and apply anvil-only enchantments. It's a direct upgrade and well worth crafting once you reach the late game.

Upgrade Path

The Advanced Enchanting Infuser uses a regular Enchanting Infuser as a crafting ingredient. You don't lose your existing block; you just need to craft a new one to place. Plan ahead and keep your original until you're ready to upgrade.

How Enchanting Works

When you place an item into the Enchanting Infuser, the mod scans all registered enchantments and shows you every one that's compatible with that item. Enchantments are sorted by rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare) and displayed in a scrollable list. Each enchantment shows its current level and maximum available level based on your enchanting power.

Enchanting power works identically to vanilla: each Bookshelf within range adds power, up to a maximum of 15. The number of Bookshelves determines which enchantments are available. Common enchantments are available almost immediately, while Very Rare enchantments require 60% of maximum power (about 9 Bookshelves). Within each rarity tier, higher levels of the same enchantment require progressively more Bookshelves, spread across a 40% power range.

Enchanting Power Thresholds

The Infuser uses percentage-based thresholds to determine when enchantments unlock. Common enchantments have a -20% multiplier, meaning they're available with 0 Bookshelves. Uncommon enchantments unlock at 20% power (about 3 Bookshelves). Rare enchantments require 40% power (6 Bookshelves), and Very Rare enchantments need 60% power (9 Bookshelves). To reach maximum levels within a tier, you'll need an additional 40% of total power beyond the unlock threshold.

Level Costs

Each enchantment level has a cost based on its rarity. Common enchantments cost 2 levels per enchantment level, Uncommon costs 3, Rare costs 4, and Very Rare costs 5. So applying Sharpness V (a Common enchantment) would have a base cost of 10 levels (2 x 5), while Mending (Very Rare, level 1) would cost 5 levels base. These costs are then scaled against the maximum cost setting so that fully enchanting an item doesn't exceed 30 levels for the normal Infuser or 20 levels for the Advanced version.

If treasure or unique enchantments are enabled in the config, they cost double their normal rarity rate by default. This prevents Mending and similar powerful enchantments from being too cheap.

The Advanced Enchanting Infuser

The Advanced Enchanting Infuser is the endgame version of the block, requiring Netherite Ingots to craft. It functions identically to the normal version but with several powerful additions that make it a significant upgrade.

Book Enchanting

The Advanced Infuser can enchant regular Books, turning them into Enchanted Books with your chosen enchantments. This is extremely useful for storing enchantments to apply later via Anvil, or for trading enchanted books with other players. The normal Infuser does not support book enchanting at all.

Modifying Existing Enchantments

While the normal Infuser only accepts unenchanted items, the Advanced version lets you place already-enchanted items back in to add, upgrade, or remove individual enchantments. This means you can incrementally improve gear over time rather than needing to enchant everything perfectly in one session. If you remove enchantments, you'll even get some experience back based on the enchantment levels removed.

Item Repair

The Advanced Infuser includes a repair button that restores 25% of an item's total durability per use, costing experience levels. The repair cost scales with how damaged the item is. For example, a heavily damaged tool costs more per click than one with minor damage. This feature works on tools (anything extending TieredItem) and armor pieces. Note that repairing optionally increases the item's prior work penalty, which can make future Anvil repairs more expensive if that config option is enabled.

Anvil-Only Enchantments

The Advanced Infuser unlocks anvil-only enchantment combinations by default. This means you can apply enchantments like Sharpness to an Axe, or other combinations that normally require an Anvil and an Enchanted Book. This saves both the Anvil's material cost and avoids the "Too Expensive" cap.

Redstone Signal

Both Infuser blocks emit a Redstone signal of 15 when an item is placed inside them. You can use this with Comparators to build indicator systems that show whether your Infuser currently has an item in it.

Bookshelf Setup and Enchanting Power

The Enchanting Infuser follows the same Bookshelf placement rules as the vanilla Enchanting Table. Bookshelves must be placed exactly 2 blocks away from the Infuser at the same height or one block above, with nothing blocking the space between the shelf and the Infuser. The standard ring of 15 Bookshelves provides maximum enchanting power.

Chiseled Bookshelves are also supported. Each book stored in a Chiseled Bookshelf contributes toward enchanting power, with every 3 books equaling 1 point of power. This means a fully loaded Chiseled Bookshelf (6 books) counts as 2 points of enchanting power. While less efficient per block than regular Bookshelves, Chiseled Bookshelves can fill in gaps or supplement a setup that's short on regular shelves.

Filling in corners matters when trying to reach maximum power. The Infuser checks all valid positions around it, including diagonal positions. If you need to reach higher power values (for example, with Apotheosis installed which sets the maximum to 50), you'll need modded bookshelves that provide more than 1 enchanting power per block.

Treasure and Special Enchantments Are Disabled by Default

Treasure enchantments (Mending, Frost Walker), undiscoverable enchantments (Soul Speed, Swift Sneak), untradeable enchantments, and curses are all disabled by default on both Infuser tiers. You must enable them individually in the mod's server config file before they'll appear in the enchantment list. Even with the Advanced Infuser, these won't show up until you toggle the config options.

Configuration

The Enchanting Infuser has an extensive server-side config file with separate settings for the Normal and Advanced Infuser. Every aspect of the enchanting system can be tuned, making this mod highly customizable for modpack authors or server operators.

Cost Settings

The maximum cost determines the level cap for fully enchanting an item (default 30 for Normal, 20 for Advanced). Cost multipliers per rarity control how the total cost is distributed: Common at 2x, Uncommon at 3x, Rare at 4x, and Very Rare at 5x per enchantment level. The "doubleUniques" option (enabled by default) doubles the cost of treasure and other special enchantments when they're enabled. The "scaleCostsByVanillaOnly" option (enabled by default) ensures that adding lots of modded enchantments doesn't make everything absurdly cheap by only counting vanilla enchantments for cost scaling.

Enchantment Type Toggles

Five boolean toggles control which special enchantment types are available: anvil enchantments, treasure enchantments, undiscoverable enchantments, untradeable enchantments, and curses. These have a precedence order: the undiscoverable toggle overrides treasure, curse, and tradeable settings. The untradeable toggle overrides treasure and curse. The curse toggle overrides treasure. This means Soul Speed, which is both undiscoverable and a treasure enchantment, requires the undiscoverable toggle specifically.

Repair Settings

Repair can be set to work on everything, only tools and armor, or nothing. The repair percentage step (default 25%) controls how much durability is restored per repair action. The repair step multiplier (default 2.0) controls the experience cost. The "increaseAnvilRepairCost" option (disabled by default) makes Infuser repairs increase the item's prior work penalty, affecting future Anvil costs.

Apotheosis Integration

If Apotheosis is installed, the Enchanting Infuser automatically integrates with it. The maximum bookshelf count is fixed at 50, and all Apotheosis enchantment modifications (custom max levels, changed rarities) are respected. This integration can be disabled in config if it causes issues.

Block Properties

Both Infuser blocks share the same physical properties. They have a hardness of 5.0 and a blast resistance of 1200.0, making them extremely blast-resistant (comparable to Obsidian's resistance). They emit a light level of 7, identical to the vanilla Enchanting Table. Both blocks require a Pickaxe to mine (tagged as mineable with pickaxe) and will drop their contents when broken.

The Infuser supports hopper and automation interaction through sided inventory access. Items can be inserted from any side and extracted once they're enchanted or if they're Enchanted Books. The block entity also emits enchanting particles when surrounded by Bookshelves, giving a visual indication of active enchanting power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get Mending from the Enchanting Infuser?

Not by default. Mending is a treasure enchantment, and treasure enchantments are disabled in the default config. You need to enable "allowTreasureEnchantments" in the server config file. Once enabled, Mending requires 95% enchanting power (nearly full Bookshelves) and costs double the normal rate.

Does the Enchanting Infuser work with Apotheosis?

Yes, there's built-in Apotheosis integration. When Apotheosis is detected, the maximum bookshelf count is automatically set to 50, and all of Apotheosis's enchantment modifications are respected. You can disable this integration in the config if it causes problems.

Why can't I enchant Books in the normal Enchanting Infuser?

Book enchanting is disabled by default on the normal Infuser. Only the Advanced Enchanting Infuser supports enchanting Books out of the box. You can change this by setting "allowBooks" to true for the normal Infuser in the config, but the intended progression is to upgrade to the Advanced version.

Can I remove enchantments from an item?

Yes, but only with the Advanced Enchanting Infuser (or if you enable "allowModifyingEnchantments" for the normal Infuser in config). Place the enchanted item in, decrease the unwanted enchantment's level to 0, and confirm. You'll receive some experience back based on the enchantment levels you removed.

How does the repair feature work?

The Advanced Infuser's repair button restores 25% of the item's maximum durability per click, costing experience levels. The cost scales with how damaged the item is. This only works on tools and armor by default. Repairing does not consume any materials, just levels.

Why is an enchantment showing a lock icon or not appearing?

You likely don't have enough Bookshelves for that enchantment's rarity tier. The interface shows the required power level next to locked enchantments. Add more Bookshelves until you reach the threshold. For special enchantments like Soul Speed or Mending, also check that the relevant config option is enabled.
