Extended Industrialization Mod Guide: Machines, Tesla Power, Tools & Automation
Extended Industrialization is a powerful addon for Modern Industrialization that adds over a dozen new machines, wireless Tesla energy transmission, Solar Panels and Solar Boilers, electric and steam-powered tools, the Nano Suit armor system with Quantum upgrades, and an automated farming pipeline. If you already have Modern Industrialization running, this mod dramatically expands what you can build and automate.
Overview
Extended Industrialization is an addon mod for Modern Industrialization that significantly expands the base mod's content. It adds new processing machines like the Alloy Smelter, Bending Machine, Brewery, and Canning Machine, alongside utility machines like the Machine Chainer and Processing Array that transform how you design your factory layouts. The mod also introduces a complete wireless energy system through Tesla Coils, Receivers, and Towers, letting you transmit power without cables across enormous distances.
Beyond machines, the mod features Solar Boilers and Solar Panels for renewable energy generation, a full suite of electric and steam-powered tools (including the devastating
Ultimate Laser Drill), the Nano Suit armor with optional Quantum upgrades for endgame protection, and an agricultural system centered around the Farmer machine and NPK Fertilizer processing chain. You can browse every item and recipe this mod adds using the tabs at the top of this page.
Prerequisites
Extended Industrialization requires Modern Industrialization as its base mod. You should have a working MI setup before diving into this addon. At minimum, you'll need access to Bronze and Steel tier machines, a basic ore processing line, and familiarity with MI's cable and pipe systems. Many recipes reference MI components like Motors, Pumps, Circuits, and Machine Hulls, so having those production chains established will make crafting EI machines much smoother.
The mod's content spans from early Bronze tier all the way through Superconductor tier, so you'll progressively unlock more EI features as you advance through Modern Industrialization's own tech tree. Some machines like the Bending Machine and Composter are available in Bronze variants, while others like the Processing Array and Tesla Tower require advanced MI infrastructure.
Getting Started
- 1
Craft Your First EI Machines
The easiest EI machines to craft early on are the Bronze Bending Machine, Bronze Composter, and Bronze Solar Boiler. The Bending Machine converts Plates into Curved Plates and Rods into Rings, which are useful components for later recipes. The Composter turns organic materials into Bone Meal, while the Solar Boiler gives you free steam power from sunlight. All three require only Bronze-tier components and MI's standard pipe infrastructure.
- 2
Set Up a Solar Boiler for Free Steam
Craft a Bronze Solar Boiler using Glass, Silver Plates, Fire Clay Bricks, and a Bronze Boiler. Place it with a clear view of the sky, connect Water input via pipes, and pipe the Steam output to your machines. The Solar Boiler generates steam passively during the day based on sunlight levels. Watch for calcification over time, which reduces efficiency. You can reset calcification by right-clicking the boiler with an Axe.
- 3
Build the Alloy Smelter
The Steel Alloy Smelter unlocks alloy creation, combining two metal dusts, ingots, or blocks into alloy ingots. Key alloy recipes include Tin + Copper for Bronze, Lead + Antimony for Battery Alloy, Copper + Nickel for Cupronickel, Iron + Nickel for Invar, and Gold + Silver for Electrum. These alloys are essential for progressing through both MI and EI content. The Electric variant becomes available once you have Basic Machine Hulls and Analog Circuits.
- 4
Make a Machine Config Card
Craft the
Machine Config Card early. It stores a machine's configuration (slot assignments, orientation settings) and lets you apply it to other machines of the same type. Shift-click a machine to save its config, then click another machine to paste. Shift-click in the air to clear the stored config. This is invaluable when setting up rows of identical machines, saving you from manually configuring each one. - 5
Explore Canned Food and the Canning Machine
Craft Tin Cans from Tin Curved Plates (2 plates makes 2 cans). Then build a Canning Machine to automatically convert any food item into
Canned Food. The machine uses a number of Tin Cans equal to half the food's hunger value (rounded up). Canned Food restores 2 hunger points each, is eaten quickly, and stacks efficiently, making it great for long expeditions. The Canning Machine also handles fluid filling and emptying, like converting Water Bottles and Honey Bottles.
Processing Machines
Extended Industrialization adds several new single-block processing machines, each available in multiple tiers (Bronze, Steel, and Electric). These machines fill gaps in Modern Industrialization's processing capabilities and integrate directly with MI's pipe, cable, and automation systems.
Alloy Smelter
The Alloy Smelter takes two metal inputs and produces an alloy output. It operates at 4 EU per tick with a base processing time of 200 ticks (10 seconds). Available recipes include Bronze (1 Tin + 3 Copper = 4 Bronze), Battery Alloy (1 Lead + 1 Antimony = 2 Battery Alloy), Cupronickel (1 Copper + 1 Nickel = 2 Cupronickel), Invar (2 Iron + 1 Nickel = 3 Invar), and Electrum (1 Gold + 1 Silver = 2 Electrum). Each recipe can accept dusts, ingots, tiny dusts, or blocks as input, with blocks taking 1800 ticks due to the larger batch size.
Bending Machine
The Bending Machine converts Plates into Curved Plates and Rods into Rings. It works with every material in Modern Industrialization's material system, processing at 2 EU per tick. Processing time scales with the material's hardness factor. This machine is essential for producing Curved Plates used in many crafting recipes, replacing what would otherwise require multiple manual crafting steps.
Brewery
The Brewery automates vanilla potion brewing inside MI's machine system. It processes 4 potions at once, requiring a reagent ingredient plus 1 mB of Blazing Essence fluid per batch. Blazing Essence is produced in a Blast Furnace from Blaze Powder (1 Blaze Powder yields 20 mB). The Brewery automatically detects all vanilla and modded brewing recipes, including potion type conversions and container upgrades (Potion to Splash to Lingering). Available in Steel and Electric variants.
Honey Extractor
The Honey Extractor harvests Honey fluid from nearby Bee Nests and Beehives. It reads the honey level from hive blocks and converts it to Honey fluid. The Steel variant produces at 2 EU per tick with a 1.0x output multiplier and 16,000 mB tank capacity, while the Electric variant runs at 4 EU per tick with a 2.0x multiplier and 32,000 mB capacity. Honey fluid can be frozen into Honey Blocks in a Vacuum Freezer, melted from Honey Blocks in a Blast Furnace, or crystallized into
Crystallized Honey.
Honey fluid can be used in the Mixer to wax Copper blocks (just like Honeycomb does in vanilla), creating all variants of Waxed Copper. This is an efficient way to mass-produce waxed Copper for building projects. You can also macerate
Crystallized Honey into Sugar at a 1:3 ratio.
Composter & Waste Collector
The Composter converts organic items into Bone Meal using vanilla's compostability values. It calculates how many items are needed based on their compost chance: higher-chance items require fewer inputs. This automates what would otherwise be tedious manual composting. The Waste Collector is the companion machine that collects Manure fluid, which feeds into the fertilizer processing chain. Both are available in Bronze, Steel, and Electric tiers, with the Electric Waste Collector offering 4 EU per tick, 32,000 mB capacity.
Canning Machine
Beyond
Canned Food, the Canning Machine handles general fluid filling and emptying. It can fill and empty Buckets for any registered fluid, fill and empty Water Bottles and Honey Bottles, and process any food item into Canned Food. The machine dynamically generates recipes for every food item and fluid bucket in the game, including those from other mods. It operates at 2 EU per tick with 100-tick processing time.
Multiblock Machines
Large Furnace
The Large Steam Furnace is a multiblock that batch-processes 8 items at once with a 0.75x EU multiplier, making it more energy-efficient than running 8 individual furnaces. Built from Bronze Curved Plates, Bronze Plated Bricks, a Bronze Furnace, Bronze Machine Casing, and Fire Clay Bricks. The Large Electric Furnace is the upgraded version, processing 16 items per batch and requiring an Advanced Machine Hull, Heatproof Machine Casing, and Electronic Circuits.
Large Macerator
Similar to the Large Furnace, the Large Steam Macerator batches 8 items at 0.75x EU cost. The Large Electric Macerator handles 16 items per batch. The electric variant requires
Steel Plated Bricks (an EI-specific block crafted from Steel Plates surrounding Fire Clay Bricks), an Invar Rotary Blade, Electronic Circuits, and an Advanced Machine Hull.
Processing Array
The Processing Array is a powerful mid-to-late game machine that accepts a stack of single-block machines and runs their recipes in parallel. Place multiple copies of the same machine inside, and the Processing Array processes that many recipes simultaneously. It has a configurable EU cost multiplier (default 1.0x) and can optionally accept upgrades. Crafted from Robot Arms, Digital Circuits, Clean Stainless Steel Machine Casings, and an Assembler, this machine significantly reduces factory footprint.
The Processing Array's upgrade slot can be disabled via the mod's configuration file by setting 'allow_upgrades_in_processing_array' to false. Server administrators may want to tweak this for balance. The EU cost multiplier is also configurable (default 1.0x).
Machine Chainer
The Machine Chainer connects up to 64 machines (configurable from 1 to 128) into a single network, sharing items, fluids, and energy between them. It effectively turns a row of machines into one unified processing line. Craft it in an Assembler using an Advanced Machine Hull, 2 Universal Transformers, 2 Large Motors, 2 Large Pumps, 64 Item Pipes, 64 Fluid Pipes, and 64 Electrum Cables. The network rebuilds its connections every 200 ticks automatically.
The Machine Chainer Relay is a simpler companion block that extends the chain's reach. Crafted from Iron Plates, Item Pipes, a Cupronickel Coil, and Fluid Pipes, relays act as connection points without needing to be full machines themselves.
Renewable Energy: Solar Power
Solar Boiler
The Solar Boiler provides free steam power during the day. It requires a clear view of the sky and a Water input, outputting Steam based on sunlight levels. The Bronze variant generates steam equivalent to 4 EU per tick, while the Steel variant produces 8 EU per tick. Solar Boilers suffer from calcification over time, a mechanic that gradually reduces their efficiency. The current calcification percentage is shown in the machine's GUI. To reset it, simply right-click the boiler with an Axe.
Solar Panels
Solar Panels are electric generators that convert sunlight directly into EU using Photovoltaic Cells. They come in three tiers: LV, MV, and HV. Each tier requires a matching Photovoltaic Cell item, Distilled Water as coolant, and an unobstructed view of the sky. Solar efficiency varies based on actual sunlight levels, weather, and time of day. The panels provide a clean, renewable energy source once you've invested in the Photovoltaic Cell production chain.
Photovoltaic Cell Specifications
| LV Cell | 16 EU/t, 12,000 tick lifespan |
| MV Cell | 64 EU/t, 12,000 tick lifespan |
| HV Cell | 256 EU/t, 12,000 tick lifespan |
Photovoltaic Cells are consumable items that degrade over their lifespan of 12,000 ticks (10 minutes at full efficiency). LV cells are crafted in a Packer using Glass Panes, Silver Plates, and Rubber Sheets. MV and HV cells require increasingly advanced materials including N-Doped and P-Doped Silicon Plates, Silicon Wafers, Synthetic Rubber, and Polyethylene in an Assembler. See the Recipes tab for exact crafting requirements.
Tesla Wireless Energy System
The Tesla system is one of Extended Industrialization's flagship features, enabling wireless energy transmission without cables. The system consists of Tesla Coils (transmitters), Tesla Receivers, Tesla Receiver Hatches (for multiblocks), Tesla Towers (long-range transmitters), and the Lethal Tesla Coil (a weaponized variant).
Tesla Coil & Tesla Receiver
The Tesla Coil transmits energy wirelessly within a configurable range (default 32 blocks). The Tesla Receiver is the matching block that accepts this energy and makes it available via cables. Both are crafted from a
Silver Tesla Top Load, Electronic Circuits, an Advanced Machine Hull, Silicon Batteries, and Electrum Cables. The two are interchangeable: you can convert a Tesla Coil into a Tesla Receiver and vice versa through a simple shapeless recipe.
Tesla Receiver Hatches
Tesla Receiver Hatches allow multiblock machines to receive wireless Tesla energy directly. They come in all five cable tiers: LV (Tin Cable + Basic Machine Hull), MV (Electrum Cable + Advanced Machine Hull), HV (Aluminum Cable + Turbo Machine Hull), EV (Annealed Copper Cable + Highly Advanced Machine Hull), and Superconductor. Each hatch can be unpacked back into its components using an Unpacker.
Tesla Tower
The Tesla Tower is a multiblock structure for long-range wireless energy transmission. It uses Tesla Windings made from different materials to determine its transmission tier and range. Copper Windings provide LV transmission, Electrum for MV, Aluminum for HV, Annealed Copper for EV, and Superconductor for the highest tier. Higher-tier windings increase both the transmission capacity and range but also have a higher passive energy drain. The tower requires a Turbo Machine Hull, Clean Stainless Steel Machine Casings, Digital Circuits, and Aluminum Cables.
Tesla Towers consume energy passively just by being active, regardless of whether they're transmitting power. Higher-tier windings have significantly higher drain rates. Make sure your power generation can sustain the tower's idle consumption before committing to expensive Superconductor Windings.
Lethal Tesla Coil
The Lethal Tesla Coil is a weaponized Tesla Coil that damages entities within its range (default 2 blocks, configurable). Damage scales based on the cable tier, calculated as the tier's EU value divided by 16. It hits entities every 20 ticks (1 second). Crafted using a
Silver Tesla Top Load, Electronic Circuits, an Advanced Machine Hull, Sodium Batteries, and Aluminum Cables. The Lethal Tesla Coil also supports an Interdimensional Upgrade, crafted in an Assembler from Superconductor Tesla Windings, Highly Advanced Upgrades, a Processing Unit, and PVC fluid.
Tesla Tools
Two handheld Tesla items complement the system. The
Tesla Calibrator is a diagnostic tool crafted from Silver Wire, Transistors, Glass Panes, Diodes, and an Electronic Circuit. The
Tesla Handheld Receiver lets you receive wireless Tesla energy on-the-go, useful for charging electric tools and armor. It's crafted from a
Silver Tesla Top Load, an Annealed Copper Tesla Winding, Transistors, Diodes, and an Electronic Circuit.
Tools & Equipment
Steam Chainsaw
The
Steam Chainsaw is an early-game tool powered by Water (18,000 mB capacity). It functions as a tree-felling axe with 7.0 attack damage and Diamond-tier mining speed. It features a toggleable Silk Touch mode and burns water as fuel (5 mB per tick while operating). Crafted from a Furnace, Diamonds, Iron Large Plates, Copper Gears, and a Bucket, it's accessible before you have electricity set up.
Electric Tools
The mod adds three electric tools powered by MI's energy system. All feature adjustable mining speed (1-10 multiplier), and the drill variants support a toggleable 3x3 mining mode. Energy cost is 2,048 EU per block in single mode and 6,144 EU in 3x3 mode. Each tool can switch between Fortune and Silk Touch enchantment modes.

Nano Suit Armor
The Nano Suit is Extended Industrialization's endgame armor set. Each piece provides 6 armor points and 3.0 toughness with 0.1 knockback resistance, and is powered by MV-tier energy (1,200 × MV max transfer capacity). Damage absorption costs 1,024 EU per hit. The suit cannot be repaired through traditional means. Each piece is crafted in an Assembler from Netherite armor, Carbon Plates, Electronic Circuits, Silicon Batteries, Large Motors, Polyethylene, and Nylon.
Each armor piece grants a unique ability. The
Nano Helmet provides Night Vision. The
Nano Leggings grant Speed boost. The
Nano Boots give Step Assist (walk up 1-block heights automatically). The
Nano Chestplate has no special ability by default, but can be upgraded with a Gravichestplate to create the
Nano Gravichestplate, which grants Creative Flight. The Gravichestplate upgrade can be reversed using an Unpacker.
Quantum Upgrades
Each Nano Suit piece can be further upgraded with a Quantum Upgrade in a Packer (costs 1,000,000 EU per recipe). Quantum variants have 0 base armor points but gain the Quantum Armor attribute instead, along with infinite energy capacity (no durability bar shown). Quantum pieces retain their special abilities (Night Vision, Speed, Step, Flight) and can be dyed with any dye color. A unique Rainbow dye recipe lets you use Red, Lime, and Blue dyes together for an animated rainbow effect on any Nano/Quantum armor piece.

The Farming System
The Farmer Machine
The Farmer is a multiblock machine that automates crop planting, harvesting, watering, and fertilizing. It comes in Steam and Electric variants. The Steam Farmer requires Bronze Plated Bricks, a
Steel Combine (a component unique to EI), an Analog Circuit, a Motor, and a Bronze Machine Casing Pipe. The Electric Farmer upgrades from the Steam version, adding Robot Arms, Large Motors, a Steel Machine Casing, and a Large Pump.
The Farmer's working radius increases based on its shape configuration, ranging from approximately 4.5 blocks at its smallest to 10.5 blocks at its largest setting. When supplied with NPK Fertilizer fluid, the Farmer can apply up to 80 random ticks per fertilizer use (configurable up to 1,000), dramatically accelerating crop growth. It also has a tilling mode that maintains farmland moisture and prevents trampling.
NPK Fertilizer Processing
Creating NPK Fertilizer requires a multi-step chemical processing chain. You need three key intermediate fluids: Nitrogen (from MI's existing systems), Phosphoric Acid, and Potassium Hydroxide. Phosphoric Acid is made in a Chemical Reactor from Bone Meal and Sulfuric Acid. Potassium Chloride is produced from potatoes, beetroot, carrots, or
Granite Dust combined with Water and Hydrochloric Acid. Potassium Chloride is then converted to Potassium Hydroxide using Hydrogen and Oxygen.
NPK Fertilizer Production Chain
While vegetables work for small-scale Potassium Chloride production,
Granite Dust is the best option for automation. Macerate Granite into 4 Granite Dust per block, then feed 32 Granite Dust into the Chemical Reactor for Potassium Chloride. Granite is infinitely renewable through Cobblestone generators and Stone processing.
Additional Resources & Materials
New Fluids
Extended Industrialization adds several new fluids to the game. Honey is extracted from Beehives and used for waxing Copper and producing
Crystallized Honey. Blazing Essence is smelted from Blaze Powder in a Blast Furnace and fuels the Brewery. Distilled Water (produced in a Distillery from regular Water at a 2:1 ratio) is required as coolant for Solar Panels. Manure and Composted Manure are intermediate fluids in the fertilizer chain. NPK Fertilizer, Phosphoric Acid, Potassium Chloride, and Potassium Hydroxide are the chemical processing fluids.
New Items & Components
The
Netherite Rotary Blade is a key crafting component made from
Netherite Dust and a Stainless Steel Gear. It's used in the Electric Drill,
Electric Chainsaw, and
Ultimate Laser Drill recipes. The
Steel Combine is crafted from Steel Curved Plates, Steel Bolts, and a Steel Rod, and is required for the Farmer machine.
Mulch is made in a Mixer from Dirt and Wood Pulp. Netherite Dust is a new material that can be smelted back into Netherite Ingots in a Blast Furnace (32 EU, 800 ticks), and Netherite Ingots can be macerated back into dust.
Tesla Windings & Top Loads
The Tesla system introduces two new material part types. Tesla Top Loads are crafted from 8 Curved Plates of a material in a Packer, with Silver being the primary material used for Tesla Coils and Receivers. Tesla Windings are produced from Wire and Rods of various materials, with five tiers available: Copper, Electrum, Aluminum, Annealed Copper, and Superconductor. Each winding tier determines the Tesla Tower's transmission capabilities.
Utility Machines
Universal Transformer
The Universal Transformer converts between different voltage tiers bidirectionally. Unlike MI's standard transformers which only step up or down one tier, the Universal Transformer handles any tier conversion in a single block. It stores 200 EU multiplied by the minimum of the input and output tiers. Crafted from Tin, Electrum, and Aluminum Cables surrounding a Basic Machine Hull, it's relatively cheap for how useful it is.
Large Configurable Chest
The Large Configurable Chest combines two MI Configurable Chests and a Conveyor into an expanded storage solution. It can be crafted either manually or in a Packer.
Configuration Options
Extended Industrialization offers several server-side configuration options that can significantly affect gameplay balance. The Machine Chainer's maximum connections default to 64 but can be set anywhere from 1 to 128. The Farmer's maximum random ticks per fertilizer application defaults to 80 (range 1 to 1,000). The Tesla Coil's wireless range defaults to 32 blocks. The Lethal Tesla Coil's damage range defaults to 2 blocks, with per-tier damage values configurable. The Processing Array's EU cost multiplier defaults to 1.0x and its upgrade slot can be toggled on or off.
Client-side options include the ability to disable Tesla animations entirely and set a render distance limit for Tesla visual effects. These can be helpful for performance on lower-end systems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Modern Industrialization installed to use this mod?
Yes, Extended Industrialization is an addon that requires Modern Industrialization as a dependency. All of its machines, tools, and recipes integrate directly with MI's systems, and many recipes use MI components as ingredients.
How far can Tesla Coils transmit energy?
The default Tesla Coil range is 32 blocks, which is configurable in the mod's config file. Tesla Towers can transmit much further depending on their winding tier, with Superconductor windings reaching up to 512 blocks. An Interdimensional Upgrade even allows cross-dimension transmission.
Can I upgrade Nano Suit armor to Quantum without losing it?
Yes. Each Nano Suit piece can be upgraded to its Quantum variant in a Packer by combining it with a Quantum Upgrade. The Gravichestplate upgrade and downgrade are also reversible via Packer and Unpacker respectively.
Why is my Solar Boiler producing less steam over time?
Solar Boilers suffer from calcification, which gradually reduces their efficiency. Check the calcification percentage in the machine's GUI. To reset it back to 100% efficiency, right-click the Solar Boiler with an Axe. This is a maintenance task you'll need to perform periodically.
What's the best way to produce Potassium Chloride for NPK Fertilizer?
Granite Dust is the most automatable option. Macerate Granite blocks into 4 Granite Dust each, then process 32 Granite Dust with Water and Hydrochloric Acid in a Chemical Reactor. Granite can be produced infinitely through Cobblestone generators. Alternatively, Potatoes (1 each), Beetroots (2 each), or Carrots (3 each) work for smaller-scale production.
Does the Machine Chainer work with multiblock machines?
The Machine Chainer connects single-block machines into a network for shared item, fluid, and energy transfer. For multiblock machines that need wireless energy, use Tesla Receiver Hatches instead. These are available in all five cable tiers (LV through Superconductor) and integrate directly into multiblock structures.
