Macaw's Furniture Mod Guide: Every Chair, Desk, Dresser & Storage Piece
Macaw's Furniture adds over 400 craftable furniture pieces to Minecraft, covering Chairs, Desks, Nightstands, Dressers, Cupboards, and large Wardrobes across all 8 wood types. Many pieces double as functional storage with 27 or 54 item slots, and every Chair lets you sit down.
Overview
Macaw's Furniture is a decoration and storage mod that adds a massive collection of furniture pieces to Minecraft. Every piece comes in all 8 wood types: Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Crimson, and Warped. The mod covers Chairs you can actually sit in, Desks for your study, Nightstands for your bedroom, Dressers and Cupboards with real storage, and large 2x2 Wardrobes that hold as much as a Double Chest.
The crafting system revolves around two key concepts: wood-specific Plates that serve as the universal building material, and two shared components (Drawers and Cabinet Doors) that unlock storage functionality. Once you understand these basics, the entire mod opens up. You can browse every recipe and item using the tabs at the top of this page.
Getting Started
- 1
Craft Your First Plates
Plates are the foundation of every furniture recipe. Place any Log in the center of a Crafting Table surrounded by 8 Sticks to get 8 Plates of that wood type. Plates are cheap and you will need a lot of them, so batch-craft a full stack early on.
- 2
Craft Drawers and Cabinet Doors
Drawers and Cabinet Doors are the two shared components that appear across many recipes. Both require Sticks, a Chest, and an Iron Nugget. These are not wood-specific, so one batch works for all furniture types. Drawers unlock Nightstands and Dresser variants, while Cabinet Doors unlock storage Cabinets and Cupboards.
- 3
Build a Chair and Sit Down
Chairs are the simplest furniture to start with, requiring only Plates and Fences. Right-click any Chair to sit in it. There are four styles to choose from: Classic, Modern, Striped, and Stool. Try a Classic Chair first since it only needs 3 Plates and 2 Fences.
- 4
Add Storage Furniture
Craft a Nightstand (8 Plates + 1
Drawer) for your first storage furniture piece. It holds 27 items, the same as a regular Chest, and looks much better in a bedroom. For double the storage at 54 slots, combine two smaller pieces into Dressers or Cupboards. - 5
Furnish a Full Room
Now combine everything together. Place a Desk with a Chair, a Nightstand beside your Bed, a Dresser against the wall, and a tall Wardrobe in the corner. Desks come in left and right halves so you can make them as wide as you want. Mix and match wood types for a rustic or eclectic style.
Crafting Components
Before diving into the furniture itself, you need to understand the three crafting components that appear in almost every recipe.
Plates
Plates are the primary building material for all furniture. Each wood type has its own Plate:
Oak Plate,
Spruce Plate,
Birch Plate,
Jungle Plate,
Acacia Plate,
Dark Oak Plate,
Crimson Plate, and
Warped Plate. The recipe produces 8 Plates from a single Log surrounded by 8 Sticks. Overworld wood types use their respective Logs, while Nether variants use Crimson Stem or Warped Stem. Since most furniture pieces require 2 to 9 Plates, keep a healthy supply on hand.
Drawers
The
Drawer is crafted from 4 Sticks, 1 Chest, and 1 Iron Nugget. It is a universal component not tied to any wood type. Drawers are used in Nightstand recipes and several Dresser variants to add storage functionality. One Drawer per Nightstand, so craft several if you are furnishing an entire house.
Cabinet Doors
The
Cabinet Door is crafted from 7 Sticks, 1 Chest, and 1 Iron Nugget in a slightly different arrangement than the
Drawer. Cabinet Doors are used in storage Cabinets (Box variants) and the double-door Nightstand 4 style. Like Drawers, they are not wood-specific.
A single Log and 8 Sticks yields 8 Plates. Since Sticks come from Planks (4 Sticks per 2 Planks), one Log can produce both the Sticks and the center Log for the recipe. Plan your wood chopping accordingly, and always keep a couple of stacks of Sticks in reserve.
Chairs
The mod adds four distinct Chair styles, each available in all 8 wood types. Every Chair is fully functional: right-clicking it makes your character sit down. This is purely cosmetic but adds a lot to the atmosphere of a build. Chairs are among the cheapest furniture pieces to craft, requiring only Plates and Fences.
Classic Chair
The Classic Chair has a tall backrest and a simple design. It uses 3 Plates stacked vertically on the left side and 2 Fences as legs on the right. This is the most traditional-looking option and works well in dining rooms, kitchens, and medieval builds.
Modern Chair
The Modern Chair has a shorter backrest with a sleeker profile. It requires 2 Plates on top and 2 Fences below. It suits contemporary or minimalist builds where a Classic Chair would look too bulky.
Striped Chair
The Striped Chair adds a Stick to the Modern Chair pattern, creating a decorative horizontal stripe across the backrest. It uses 2 Plates, 1 Stick, and 2 Fences. This is a nice middle ground between the classic and modern aesthetics.
Stool Chair
The Stool is the simplest seating option with no backrest at all. It requires just 2 Plates and 1 Fence. Stools are perfect for bar counters, workshop benches, or anywhere you want seating without the visual bulk of a full chair.
Desks and Tables
Desks are crafted in left and right halves that you place side by side to form a complete piece. You can also place just one half for a smaller side table. This system lets you build desks of any width by chaining multiple halves together. There are six desk styles available in every wood type.
Basic Desk
The simplest desk, made from 2 Plates and 1 Fence per half. It has a flat top and a single fence-post leg. Craft the right version, then put it back in the Crafting Table to flip it to the left version.
Covered Desk
The Covered Desk uses 3 Plates in a row for a solid panel look without visible legs. It creates a clean, enclosed appearance underneath, ideal for modern interiors.
Double Desk, Glass Desk, and Modern Desk
The Double Desk adds a Plate to the Basic Desk for a thicker top. The Glass Desk takes a Double Desk half and adds a Glass Pane for a transparent panel underneath. The Modern Desk swaps the Fence leg for a full Log, giving it a thick cylindrical support. Each style follows the same left-right flipping mechanic.
Plant Pots
Plant Pots are technically in the desk category. They use 3 Plates and a Flower Pot to create a decorative shelf with a built-in planter. Like desks, they come in left and right variants. These are purely decorative and do not hold actual plants from your inventory.
All desk-type blocks come in right and left variants. The right variant is the primary recipe; place it alone in a Crafting Table to get the left variant. This applies to Basic Desks, Covered Desks, Double Desks, Glass Desks, Modern Desks, and Plant Pots.
Nightstands and Small Storage
Nightstands are the small, single-block storage furniture pieces. They hold 27 items, the same capacity as a vanilla Chest. The base Nightstand is crafted from 8 Plates and 1
Drawer. From that base piece, you can create numerous visual variants by combining it with additional items in the Crafting Table.
Storage Nightstands
The base Nightstand, Nightstand 2 (Nightstand +
Drawer for a visible drawer front), Nightstand 3 (Nightstand + Book for a bookshelf look), Nightstand 4 (8 Plates + 2 Cabinet Doors for a double-door cabinet), Nightstand 5 (Nightstand +
Cabinet Door), and Nightstand 6 (made from a Box) all function as storage containers with 27 slots. Right-click to open them just like a Chest.
Decorative Nightstand Variants
Nightstand 8 (Glass Pane + Box) is a glass-front display variant. Nightstand 9 and Nightstand 10 are small decorative tables, and Nightstand 11 is a simple shelf made from just a Plate and a Fence. These decorative variants do not have storage. Use them to fill corners and add visual detail to rooms without needing inventory space.
Boxes and Counters
The Box (8 Plates + 1
Cabinet Door) is a glass-fronted cabinet block used as a component in many larger recipes. Counters (called Pults in the recipes) come in five styles. The base Counter is purely decorative (Plate + Log), while Pult 1 through 4 add storage by incorporating Nightstands or Boxes into their recipes. Counters work perfectly for kitchen builds.
Dressers and Wide Storage
Dressers are 2-block-wide furniture pieces that provide 54 slots of storage, matching a Double Chest. They are crafted by combining two smaller pieces side by side. The mod offers over a dozen Dresser styles per wood type, ranging from
drawer-fronted bureaus to open bookshelves.
Storage Dressers
The base Dresser (2 Nightstand 5s) and Dresser Box (2 Boxes) are the most straightforward. Dresser 3 through 6 offer variations with different
drawer and door configurations. Dresser 11 through 13 add progressively more drawers to a simple frame. All storage Dressers open with a Double Chest-size inventory when right-clicked.
Decorative Dressers
Dresser 7 and 9 are mirror variants that display a glass front but have no inventory. Dresser 14 is a simple decorative shelf frame (6 Plates + 2 Logs) with no storage. These work well for adding visual variety to a room without every surface being clickable.
Cupboards and Tall Furniture
Cupboards are 2-block-tall furniture pieces, stacking a Nightstand-height unit on top of another. Cupboard 5 (2 Nightstand 4s stacked) is a tall double-door cabinet. Cupboard 6 through 9 offer glass-fronted and bookshelf-style variants. Some have storage while others are decorative display pieces.
Large Wardrobes (2x2 Furniture)
The largest furniture pieces in the mod are the 2x2 Wardrobes, occupying a 2-wide by 2-tall footprint. These are crafted by combining two Cupboard halves. Furniture 1 and 2 have storage with 54 item slots. Furniture 6 stacks two Cupboard 8 halves for a large bookcase-style wardrobe, also with storage.
Furniture 3 and 4 are glass-fronted display variants without storage. Furniture 7 is a large Bookshelf unit made from 6 Plates and 3 Bookshelves, also decorative. These massive pieces make excellent focal points in libraries, bedrooms, or grand halls.
Always empty storage furniture before breaking it. Like vanilla Chests, the items inside will drop on the ground when the block is destroyed. For 2-block-wide Dressers and 2x2 Wardrobes, breaking either half destroys the whole piece, so double-check both halves are clear.
Storage Capacity by Furniture Size
| Nightstands (1x1) | 27 slots (same as a Chest) |
| Counters/Pults (1x1) | 27 slots |
| Dressers (2 wide) | 54 slots (same as a Double Chest) |
| Cupboards (2 tall) | Varies by style (some decorative only) |
| Wardrobes (2x2) | 54 slots |
| Decorative variants | No storage |
Wood Types and Nether Furniture
Every furniture piece is available in all 8 wood types. The Overworld options (Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak) use their respective Logs in the Plate recipe and their matching Fences for legs and supports. Crimson and Warped variants use Crimson Stem and Warped Stem instead of Logs, and Crimson Fence or Warped Fence for legs.
The Nether wood types are fully fireproof in vanilla Minecraft, and this carries over to the furniture. If you are building in the Nether or near Lava, Crimson and Warped furniture will not burn. This makes them the safest choice for Nether bases. Functionally, all wood types are identical in storage capacity and behavior; the difference is purely aesthetic.
Room Design Ideas
Bedroom
Place a Nightstand on each side of your Bed for symmetry. Use a Dresser or Dresser Box against the opposite wall for clothing storage. Add a tall Wardrobe (Furniture 1 or 2) in the corner. A Nightstand 8 (glass front) on a side table makes a nice display case for valuables.
Kitchen
Line Counters (Pult variants) along the walls with storage Counters for ingredients. Add Stools at an extended Counter for a breakfast bar. The Covered Desk works well as an island counter in the center of the room.
Study or Library
A Glass Desk or Modern Desk with a Classic Chair makes a great writing station. Use Furniture 7 (the large Bookshelf wardrobe) to line the walls. Cupboard 8 (Bookshelf + Box) works as a smaller bookcase alternative. Nightstand 3 (Nightstand + Book) adds a book-themed accent piece.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sit in all the Chairs?
Yes. All four Chair styles (Classic, Modern, Striped, and Stool) are sittable. Right-click to sit down and press Shift/Sneak to stand up. This works in all 8 wood types.
Which furniture pieces have storage?
Small pieces (Nightstands 1-6, storage Counters/Pults 1-4) hold 27 items. Large pieces (storage Dressers, storage Wardrobes/Furniture 1, 2, and 6) hold 54 items. Decorative variants like mirrors, shelves, and glass-front displays have no storage. When in doubt, right-click the piece; if it opens an inventory, it has storage.
Do I need any special tools to break furniture?
No. All furniture is made of wood and can be broken with any tool or by hand. An Axe will break them fastest, just like any other wooden block.
How do I flip a desk from right to left?
Place the right-hand variant alone in a Crafting Table. This will output the left-hand variant. This applies to all desk types: Basic, Covered, Double, Glass, Modern, and Plant Pots.
Does this mod work with Hoppers and automation?
Yes. Storage furniture supports the Forge item handler capability, meaning Hoppers, Pipes, and other automation mods can insert and extract items from storage Nightstands, Dressers, and Wardrobes.
Can I use Crimson and Warped furniture in the Nether safely?
Yes. Crimson and Warped are Nether wood types that do not burn. Furniture made from these materials inherits that fire resistance, making them the best choice for Nether builds or anywhere near Lava.
