More Dragon Eggs Mod Guide: Get a Dragon Egg Every Time

More Dragon Eggs is a simple but essential quality-of-life mod that fixes one of Minecraft's most frustrating limitations: the Dragon Egg only spawning once per world. With this mod installed, every Ender Dragon kill places a new Dragon Egg on top of the Exit Portal, making Dragon Eggs a renewable resource.

Overview

In vanilla Minecraft, the Dragon Egg only appears once per world, spawning on top of the Exit Portal after you defeat the Ender Dragon for the very first time. Subsequent Dragon fights never produce another Egg, making it one of the rarest blocks in the game. More Dragon Eggs changes this so that a new Dragon Egg spawns on the Exit Portal every time you kill the Ender Dragon, whether it's your first fight or your fiftieth.

The mod is entirely server-side in its logic, contains no configuration files, and adds no new items, blocks, or crafting recipes. It simply modifies the Dragon death event to always place a Dragon Egg. You can browse the mod details using the tabs on this page, though given the mod's simplicity, the guide below covers everything you need to know.

Getting Started

  1. 1

    Install and Load the Mod

Drop the More Dragon Eggs JAR file into your mods folder and launch the game. The mod requires Forge and has no dependencies beyond Minecraft itself. There is no configuration needed; it works immediately.

  2. 2

Travel to the End and Fight the Ender Dragon

Prepare for the Ender Dragon fight as you normally would. Bring Beds or a Bow with plenty of Arrows, along with solid armor and food. The mod does not change anything about the fight itself.

  3. 3

    Collect Your Dragon Egg

After the Ender Dragon dies, a Dragon Egg will appear on top of the Exit Portal, just like the first time. Use a Piston to push it off the Portal, or place a Torch two blocks below it and break the block between them to make it drop as an item. Repeat this process every time you resummon and defeat the Dragon.

How It Works

The mod listens for the Ender Dragon's death event in the End dimension. When the Dragon dies and its death animation completes (the dragon fight is properly finishing), the mod places a Dragon Egg block at the highest solid block above the End Portal's center position. This is the exact same location where vanilla Minecraft places the Egg after the first kill.

The placement happens automatically with no player interaction required. If there is already a Dragon Egg sitting on the Portal from a previous kill that you haven't collected yet, the new Egg will simply replace it, so always collect your Egg before resummoning the Dragon.

Collect Before Resummoning

Always pick up your Dragon Egg before placing four End Crystals to resummon the Dragon. The resummoning process resets the Exit Portal area, which will destroy any Egg still sitting on top of it.

Dragon Egg Farming

With Dragon Eggs now renewable, you can set up a repeatable farming loop. The cycle is straightforward: defeat the Dragon, collect the Egg, craft four End Crystals, place them on the Exit Portal's edges, and fight again. Each End Crystal requires a Ghast Tear, an Eye of Ender, and seven Glass blocks, so stocking up on these materials beforehand lets you chain fights efficiently.

Dragon Eggs have several uses in modded Minecraft. Many mods use them as crafting ingredients for endgame items, decorative blocks, or progression gates. Having a renewable supply means you no longer need to choose between keeping your Egg as a trophy and using it in a recipe.

No Configuration Required

More Dragon Eggs has no config file. The mod is always active once installed. If you want to disable it, simply remove the JAR from your mods folder.

FAQ

Does the Dragon Egg appear in the same spot every time?

Yes. The Egg always spawns on the highest block directly above the center of the End Exit Portal, which is the same position where vanilla Minecraft places the first Egg.

Does this mod work on servers?

Yes. The mod runs server-side, so it works on both singleplayer and multiplayer servers. Only the server needs the mod installed for it to function, though having it on the client as well won't cause issues.

Will I get an Egg if I use the /kill command on the Dragon?

In versions before 2.0, no. The /kill command bypasses the normal death sequence that the mod hooks into. In the version for 1.15.x, the mod checks that the Dragon fight is properly completing before placing the Egg. You should defeat the Dragon through normal gameplay to guarantee an Egg.

Does this mod conflict with other End-related mods?

Generally no. The mod uses a simple event listener on the Dragon's death and does not modify the Dragon fight mechanics, the End Portal, or any other End structures. It should be compatible with most mods that modify the End dimension.

Can I get multiple Eggs from a single Dragon kill?

No. Each Dragon kill produces exactly one Dragon Egg, placed on the Exit Portal. The mod simply ensures this happens every time, not just the first time.
