Ocean's Delight Mod Guide: Seafood Recipes, Ocean Mob Drops & Cooking

Ocean's Delight is a Farmer's Delight addon that transforms Minecraft's ocean creatures into a full seafood menu. Kill Squids, Guardians, Elder Guardians, and Pufferfish to harvest raw ingredients, then use the Cutting Board and Cooking Pot to prepare dishes ranging from Squid Rings to Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian.

Overview

Ocean's Delight is a Farmer's Delight addon that adds 18 new food items crafted from ocean creatures. Every vanilla ocean mob becomes a source of culinary ingredients: Squids drop Tentacles, Guardians drop raw Guardian meat, Elder Guardians yield massive Slabs, and even Pufferfish can be sliced into safe-to-eat Fugu. All of these raw ingredients feed into Farmer's Delight's Cutting Board and Cooking Pot to produce dishes that rival or surpass anything you can make on land.

The mod follows a simple progression: hunt ocean mobs, harvest raw materials, process them on the Cutting Board, then either cook individual pieces in a Furnace or combine ingredients in the Cooking Pot for high-tier meals. You can browse every item and recipe this mod adds using the tabs at the top of this page.

Prerequisites

Ocean's Delight requires Farmer's Delight to be installed. You will need a Cutting Board, a Knife (any material), and a Cooking Pot before you can process most of the raw ingredients this mod adds. If you haven't already set up basic Farmer's Delight infrastructure, craft a Knife and Cutting Board first, and place a Cooking Pot over a heat source like a Campfire or Stove.

Some recipes also call for Farmer's Delight crops like Cabbage, Onion, Tomato, Cooked Rice, and Dough, so having a farm with these crops established will let you access the full recipe list.

Getting Started

  1. 1

Craft a Knife and Cutting Board

You need Farmer's Delight tools before you can process anything. Craft any Knife (Iron works fine) and place down a Cutting Board. These two items are the foundation of the entire Ocean's Delight workflow.

  2. 2

    Hunt Squids with Your Knife

Head to any ocean or river and kill Squids while holding a Knife in your main hand. They will drop Tentacles as a bonus drop alongside their regular Ink Sacs. Tentacles are the starting ingredient for the Squid branch of recipes.

  3. 3

Process Tentacles on the Cutting Board

Place your Tentacles on the Cutting Board and use a Knife on them to get 3 Cut Tentacles. These are the base ingredient for Squid Rings (made in the Cooking Pot with Dough). You can also combine raw Tentacles with a Stick to make a Tentacle on a Stick, then smelt it for a Baked Tentacle on a Stick.

  4. 4

Take on Guardians for Bigger Meals

Guardians always drop a raw Guardian item when killed (no Knife required). Use the Cutting Board to carve it into a Guardian Tail plus Bone Meal, then cook the tail in a Furnace. For the ultimate Guardian dish, combine a raw Guardian with Onion, two Eggs, and two Tomatoes in the Cooking Pot to make Guardian Soup, a feast block that serves multiple portions.

  5. 5

Tackle an Elder Guardian for Endgame Seafood

Kill an Elder Guardian with a Knife to obtain a Slab of Elder Guardian. This massive cut can be sliced into 9 Elder Guardian Slices on the Cutting Board. From there, cook slices into Cooked Elder Guardian Slices, roll them with Cooked Rice into Elder Guardian Rolls, or wrap a cooked slice with Cabbage, Onion, and Tomato for the Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian, the best food in the mod at 15 hunger and 30.0 saturation.

Knife Requirement

Squids and Elder Guardians only drop their special items when killed with a Knife held in your main hand. Guardians, however, always drop raw Guardian meat regardless of what weapon you use.

Squid Recipes

Squids are the most accessible ocean mob and the easiest starting point for Ocean's Delight. Kill them with a Knife to obtain Tentacles, a raw food item that restores 3 hunger but inflicts 30 seconds of the Hunger effect. You definitely want to process Tentacles before eating them.

Tentacle on a Stick

Combine a Stick with Tentacles in a Crafting Table to make a Tentacle on a Stick (3 hunger, 1.8 saturation). The real value comes from smelting it in a Furnace, Smoker, or Campfire to produce a Baked Tentacle on a Stick, which restores 6 hunger and 7.2 saturation with no negative effects. This is a solid early food that only requires one Squid kill.

Cut Tentacles & Squid Rings

Place Tentacles on a Cutting Board and slice them with a Knife to get 3 Cut Tentacles. On their own, Cut Tentacles are poor food (1 hunger, 0.2 saturation), but they are the key ingredient for Squid Rings. Combine Cut Tentacles with Dough in the Cooking Pot to make Squid Rings, which provide 5 hunger and 5.0 saturation. This is one of the more efficient uses of Squid since it stretches a single Tentacle drop into multiple meals.

Guardian Recipes

Guardians are the mid-tier ingredient source. Unlike Squids, Guardians drop their raw Guardian item with any weapon, so you don't need a Knife for the initial kill. You will, however, need a Cutting Board and Knife to process the raw Guardian into usable ingredients.

Guardian Tail

Place a raw Guardian on the Cutting Board and slice it to get a Guardian Tail and Bone Meal. The raw Guardian Tail restores just 2 hunger and 0.8 saturation, but cooking it in a Furnace, Smoker, or Campfire produces a Cooked Guardian Tail worth 6 hunger and 4.8 saturation. This is comparable to Cooked Cod and a reliable food source once you have access to an Ocean Monument.

Guardian Soup (Feast Block)

Guardian Soup is the standout dish from the Guardian line. Craft it in the Cooking Pot using a raw Guardian, one Onion, two Eggs, and two Tomatoes. The result is a feast block that you place on the ground, and each serving restores a massive 15 hunger and 24.0 saturation while granting 3 minutes of the Comfort effect from Farmer's Delight. Multiple players can eat from the same block, making this ideal for multiplayer bases near Ocean Monuments.

Feast Block Placement

Guardian Soup works like other Farmer's Delight feast blocks. Place it on any surface and right-click to take a serving. Each Bowl of Guardian Soup returns a Bowl when eaten. The block has multiple servings before it's depleted.

Elder Guardian Recipes

Elder Guardians are the endgame ingredient source and yield the mod's most powerful foods. You must kill an Elder Guardian with a Knife in your main hand to obtain a Slab of Elder Guardian. Since there are only three Elder Guardians per Ocean Monument, these ingredients are rare and valuable.

Slicing the Slab

The Slab of Elder Guardian is edible on its own (9 hunger, 7.2 saturation), but its real value comes from processing. Place it on a Cutting Board and slice it into 9 Elder Guardian Slices plus Bone Meal. Raw slices are dangerous food: they only restore 1 hunger and have a 50% chance to inflict the Hunger effect for 2.5 minutes. Always cook them before eating.

Cooked Dishes

Smelt Elder Guardian Slices into Cooked Elder Guardian Slices (3 hunger, 1.8 saturation). While modest on their own, cooked slices are the building block for two premium dishes. Combine two raw Elder Guardian Slices with Cooked Rice to make an Elder Guardian Roll (7 hunger, 8.4 saturation), a compact sushi-style meal. The crown jewel is the Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian: combine a Cooked Elder Guardian Slice with Cabbage, Onion, and Tomato in a Crafting Table for 15 hunger, 30.0 saturation, and 30 seconds of Comfort. This is the single best food item in the entire mod.

Don't Eat Raw Elder Guardian Slices

Raw Elder Guardian Slices have a 50% chance to give you the Hunger effect for 2.5 minutes, rapidly draining your hunger bar. Always cook them in a Furnace, Smoker, or Campfire before eating. The same applies to raw Tentacles, which guarantee a 30-second Hunger debuff.

Pufferfish & Sea Pickle Recipes

Fugu (from Pufferfish)

Vanilla Pufferfish are normally dangerous to eat, but Ocean's Delight lets you safely prepare them. Place a Pufferfish on the Cutting Board and slice it with a Knife to get 6 Fugu Slices and Bone Meal. Fugu Slices are safe to eat but very low value (1 hunger, 0.2 saturation). Combine two Fugu Slices with Cooked Rice to make a Fugu Roll, which provides 7 hunger and 8.4 saturation. This is a great way to make use of all those Pufferfish you've been stockpiling.

Braised Sea Pickle

Sea Pickles aren't just decorative anymore. Combine a Sea Pickle with two Kelp in the Cooking Pot to make Braised Sea Pickle, restoring 8 hunger and 8.0 saturation. This is one of the easiest recipes in the mod since Sea Pickles and Kelp are both abundant in warm ocean biomes and require no mob hunting at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Ocean's Delight require Farmer's Delight?

Yes, Farmer's Delight is a hard dependency. Ocean's Delight uses the Cutting Board, Cooking Pot, Knife tools, and the Comfort effect from Farmer's Delight. You cannot run this mod without it.

Why am I not getting drops from Squids?

Squids only drop Tentacles when killed with a Knife from Farmer's Delight held in your main hand. Using a Sword, Axe, or any other weapon will not trigger the drop. Make sure you're using a Knife specifically.

What's the best food item in Ocean's Delight?

Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian is the best single-item food with 15 hunger and 30.0 saturation, plus 30 seconds of Comfort. However, Bowl of Guardian Soup is arguably more practical since it provides 15 hunger, 24.0 saturation, 3 minutes of Comfort, and can be served as a shared feast block from a single craft.

Can I eat raw Fugu Slices safely?

Yes, Fugu Slices are safe to eat with no negative effects, unlike the raw Pufferfish they come from. However, they only restore 1 hunger and 0.2 saturation, so you'll want to combine them into Fugu Rolls with Cooked Rice for a much better meal.

Is there a way to farm Guardian or Elder Guardian drops?

Guardians can be farmed using standard Guardian farms at Ocean Monuments, and their raw Guardian drop works with any kill method. Elder Guardians are the bottleneck since they don't respawn. You get a maximum of 3 Slabs per Ocean Monument, yielding 27 Elder Guardian Slices total per monument. For renewable high-tier food, focus on Guardian Soup instead.

What does the Comfort effect do?

Comfort is a beneficial effect from Farmer's Delight that provides passive health regeneration. It works similarly to the natural regeneration you get when your hunger bar is full, but it stacks on top of it. Guardian Soup gives 3 minutes of Comfort per serving, while Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian gives 30 seconds.
